The resulting vote, in favour of leaving the EU, caused the Government to trigger the process of withdrawal from the Union as set out in Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union. This process has become known as “Brexit“ > Withdrawal from the European Union is the legal and political process whereby > an EU member state ceases to be a member of the Union.
