About

About the Terrier Guy



Davey (aka The Terrier Guy) is a Clever Dog Company Method Trainer, terrier
enthusiast and clicker trainer. His lifelong aim is to show the world that
terriers can be trained very successfully using modern reward-based training
techniques and not physical or psycological intimidation methods. His favourite
training exercises and techniques include mat work and shaping.



"It's a real lightbulb moment when the dog works things out for themselves."



He gained theoretical and practical accredited qualifications in Canine
Behaviour and Training (Alpha Education, Clever Dog Company) and was handpicked
by the famous Clinical Animal Behaviourist and Trainer Sarah Whitehead (BA, MSc)
to join her team of Licensed trainers in the Clever Dog Company Method.



Learning is a continuous journey and Davey keeps his knowledge up to date by
attending courses, webinars and reading from some of the best trainers and
behaviourists in the field throughout the year.



When not working he practices the flute (knowing all about frustration!) and
attempts to train his British Blue cat Luna.

We are based in Seaton, Devon and cover the following areas (main towns in
brackets):



East Devon (Honiton, Ottery St Mary, Axminster, Blackdown Hills, Sidmouth,
Exmouth)

West Dorset (Lyme Regis, Charmouth, Beaminster)

South Somerset (Chard, Crewkerne)



Training outside of this approximate area will be charged at a higher rate for
petrol and time costs. If you're unsure, get in touch!

What training package should I choose?

 

This can depend on several factors: how many issues you want to address, the
complexity of the issues, the abilities of the learner and, of course, budget!
If you're unsure, get in touch and we'll recommend the best package for you and
your dog.

What are the vaccination requirements for puppy classes?

 

We can accept puppies after their second vaccination. Double check with your vet
if unsure.



Where does the training take place?

 

One to one training will usually take place in your own home. This ensures your
dog has an optimum learning environment. Some sessions may occasionally take
place at a private field for further practise or in specific circumstances.
Classes are held at the field.

Is my puppy too old for puppy classes?

 

Puppies can join our Puppy Classes from 8 weeks to 20 weeks. Older than this and
they're becoming teenagers! Our Intermediate Classes are ideal for pups who have
just missed out on Puppy Classes and cover things every terrible teen needs to
know!



Will I get results?

 

While we can't guarantee results due to variables that are out of our control
when working with animals, we can guarantee great service and top notch support
to make it as achieveable as possible. Our highest success rates occur when we
work with dog owners who are as committed to achieveing results as we are to
helping you get them!

Do you do socialisation classes?

 

Our puppy classes cover essential socialisation, confidence building and teach
valuable life skills including how to behave appropriately around other dogs and
people.



How long will it take to train my dog?

 

Some dogs surprise us and make very quick progress, but the majority take time
(the more you rush things the faster they can unravel!) We want to help you feel
back in control as quickly as possible so you can feel confident with your dog
again and our expert team are on hand to support you every step of the way.
