THE 2024 JANSKY LECTURER:
KEN KELLERMANN

The NRAO is pleased to award the 2024 Karl G. Jansky Lectureship to Dr. Ken
Kellermann, Senior Scientist, Emeritus at the National Radio Astronomy
Observatory. The Jansky Lectureship is an honor established by the trustees of
AUI to recognize and celebrate outstanding contributions to the advancement of
radio astronomy.

Ken earned his S.B. in physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in
1959 and his Ph.D. in physics and astronomy at the California Institute of
Technology under John Bolton in 1963, studying the radio spectra of galactic and
extragalactic radio sources. He joined the National Radio Astronomy Observatory
in 1965. He has served as NRAO's Acting Assistant Director for Green Bank
Operations, as Chief Scientist, and as head of its New Initiatives Office.

CYCLE 11 ALMA EVENTS:  DATA PROCESSING WORKSHOPS THROUGH NOVEMBER

To prepare the North American community to fully participate in the ALMA Call
for Proposals, the North American ALMA Science Center (NAASC) organizes proposal
preparation workshops in the months leading up to the proposal deadline. In
addition, the North American community is encouraged to request to host ALMA
proposal preparation workshops at their home institutions. These events are one
to two day workshops organized and led by experienced local postdocs from the
ALMA Ambassadors program and/or NAASC staff with a focus on the capabilities of
ALMA, mm/submm interferometry observing techniques, and the tools required to
design ALMA observing programs and submit proposals. For more information,
contact naascinfo@nrao.edu.

A list of community outreach events from 2016 through the present is provided in
the tables below. A list of events from other cycles is provided here.

CONNECT WITH NRAO

THE NATIONAL RADIO ASTRONOMY OBSERVATORY AND GREEN BANK OBSERVATORY ARE
FACILITIES OF THE U.S. NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION OPERATED UNDER COOPERATIVE
AGREEMENT BY ASSOCIATED UNIVERSITIES, INC.

Founded in 1956, the NRAO provides state-of-the-art radio telescope facilities
for use by the international scientific community. NRAO telescopes are open to
all astronomers regardless of institutional or national affiliation. Observing
time on NRAO telescopes is available on a competitive basis to qualified
scientists after evaluation of research proposals on the basis of scientific
merit, the capability of the instruments to do the work, and the availability of
the telescope during the requested time. NRAO also provides both formal and
informal programs in education and public outreach for teachers, students, the
general public, and the media.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent federal agency created
by Congress in 1950 "to promote the progress of science; to advance the national
health, prosperity, and welfare; to secure the national defense..."

AUI collaborates with the scientific community and research sponsors to plan,
build, and operate cutting-edge facilities. We cultivate excellence, deliver
value, enhance education, and engage the public.
