In World War II, the American military asked mathematician Abraham Wald to
figure out how to better protect airplanes from being shot down. The military
knew armour would help but they couldn’t protect the entire plane or it would be
too heavy to fly tell.


Pick The Delusion That Works


Athletes are known to have weird pre-game rituals that they follow - like eating
certain food or wearing socks they deem lucky. These superstitions probably help
in some small way to bolster their confidence, which in turn can influence
success. It’s irrelevant that lucky socks aren’t a thing; it can improve an
athlete’s performance even if the wearer has a flawed idea why.
