later this year. Although the name will be changing, Tom Couch and his team will
continue to serve their customers throughout the Southern Illinois region. To

AGENCY FOCUS

The Gentry-Couch Agency is a retail and commercial multi-line insurance agency
specialized in providing insurance and risk management services for families and
business entities across a spectrum of industries.

The Gentry-Couch Agency has been in business for 60 years. The agency is based
in Carterville, IL and serves clients throughout the Southern Illinois region. 


AGENCY HISTORY

Tom Couch joined the agency as a partner in 1981 and has been the principal
owner and President since 1984.

In 1996, the agency merged with Southern Bancshares, a bank holding company
which owned First National Bank & Trust Co. of Carbondale, Murphysboro, Mt.
Vernon, and Carterville. Tom Couch was President and CEO of the agency, First
Insurance Group, Inc. 

In 1999, Old National Bancorp merged with Southern Bancshares and the agency
became part of the ONB Insurance Group.  Tom Couch was the V.P. for the Illinois
region of ONB Insurance Group, and the agency had affiliations with 22 banks
locations from Murphysboro IL to Danville IL and had over 35 licensed agents. 

In July 2001, Tom Couch purchased the agency back from Old National and is once
again doing business as Gentry-Couch, Inc.

In December 2019, plans for Gentry-Couch, Inc. to merge with First Mid Insurance
Group were announced. Gentry-Couch, Inc. will be transitioning to First Mid
Insurance Group, Inc. in 2020.
