COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - With Tuesday being National Voter Registration Day, it’s
important to make sure you’re registered to vote in upcoming elections.

In South Carolina, any U.S. citizen older than 18 who is a resident of South
Carolina in the county or precinct where they are registering is eligible to
vote.

However, those who are under a court order declaring mental incompetence, those
confined in a public prison resulting from criminal conviction and those who
have been convicted of a felony or offense against election laws are not
eligible.

To register, you must provide a current, valid photo ID or a utility bill, bank
statement, paycheck or government document with your name and county address.



You can register online, by mail, email, fax or by going in-person to one of the
following agencies:

 * Armed Forces Recruiting Stations
 * Commission for the Blind
 * Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services
 * Department of Disabilities and Special Needs
 * Department of Health and Environmental Control
 * Department of Health and Human Services
 * Department of Mental Health
 * Department of Motor Vehicles
 * Department of Social Services
 * Protection and Advocacy for People with Disabilities
 * Vocational Rehabilitation Department

You can check if you’re registered to vote by clicking here.

If registering in-person, your deadline for registration is Oct. 4 by 5 p.m.
Those registering online have until Oct. 6 by 11:59 p.m. and those registering
by mail have a deadline (indicated by postmark) of Oct. 7.



If you are looking to request an absentee ballot, your deadline is Oct. 25 by 5
p.m.

Early voting for the general election takes place from Oct. 21 to Nov. 2.

Election Day is Nov. 5.
