Purposes of and legal basis for data processing

USING OUR ONLINE DISPATCH SYSTEMS

DHL Express is committed to preserving the privacy of our website users. When
you use our dispatch systems, for security purposes our web servers always save
the connection data of the computer connecting to our site, a list of the pages
that you visit, the date and duration of your visit, the identification data of
the type of browser and operating system used as well as the website through
which you accessed our site. We do not record personal data such as your name,
your address, telephone number or e-mail address unless you provide these
details at your own initiative, for instance, by filling in address fields,
address books or as part of contractual performance or enquiry.

Article 6, Paragraph 1 lit. f of the GDPR provides the legal basis for
processing the above-mentioned data categories. For these reasons, in particular
to ensure security and a smooth connection setup, we have a legitimate interest
in the processing of these data.

We also use cookies, tracking tools and targeting measures. You can find more
information about it here.

GOOGLE RECAPTCHA

We use the Google reCAPTCHA service which protects our website from spam and
abuse. reCAPTCHA prevents automated software (so-called bots) from carrying out
abusive activities on the website, i.e., it is checked whether the entries made
actually originate from a human being. In order to determine this, the following
data are collected and processed:

 * Referrer (address of the page on which the captcha is used)

 * The user’s IP address

 * Google account (if the user is logged into Google, this is recognised and
   assigned)

 * The input behaviour of the user (e.g., answering the reCAPTCHA question,
input speed in the form fields, order of selection of the input fields by the
user) is used to improve pattern recognition at Google. Browser, browser size
and resolution, browser plugins, date, language setting)

 * Display instructions (CSS) and scripts (Java Script) of the website

 * Mouse and touch events within the website

Google also reads cookies from other Google services such as Gmail, Search and
Analytics. All of the above-mentioned data are sent to Google in encrypted form.
Google’s subsequent evaluation decides in which form the captcha is displayed on
the page - in the form of a checkbox or by entering text. No personal data are
read out or saved from the input fields of the respective form.

For more information regarding Google’s privacy policy, please visit:
www.google.com/policies/privacy/.

PROCESSING FOR ADVERTISING PURPOSES

If you are already a customer, your address data (e.g., name, address, e-mail
address) will be processed to inform you of our offers, news, products and
services. Apart from an existing consent, we shall only process your e-mail
address to provide you with information regarding our own and similar products.

Article 6 para 1 lit f of the European Union General Data Protection Regulation
(GDPR) provides the legal basis for the above-mentioned processing. The
processing of customer data for our own direct marketing purposes takes place
within the scope of our legitimate interests.

You have the right to object to this processing at any time. To exercise your
right, simply contact us using the contact details above.

If you give your consent, you will receive offers and specific tips on products
and information relating to DHL and Deutsche Post AG that are tailored to your

Timeframes for data retention

Your personal data will be erased or blocked as soon as the reason for retaining
it ceases to apply. Data may also be retained for longer periods if statutory
retention periods apply. Data may also be blocked or erased if a data retention
period prescribed by law expires unless it is necessary to continue storing the
data for the conclusion or performance of a contract.

DPDHL Group Data Privacy Policy

The DPDHL Data Privacy Policy regulates the Group-wide standards for data
processing with a special focus upon so-called third country transfers, meaning
transfers of personal data to countries outside the European Union (EU), which
do not have a recognised, adequate level of data protection. If you are

Transfer of data to third countries

Transfers of data to third countries means that data are transmitted to
countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA) or is accessed from there.
You data are also processed in so-called third countries, specifically in your
item’s country of destination. This takes place either because it is necessary
for performing a contract (for instance delivery, customs clearance), on the
basis of our Binding Corporate Rules or EU standard contractual clauses.

Use of web tracking

We use tracking software to determine how many users visit our website and how
often. We do not use this software to collect individual personal data or
individual IP addresses. The data are used solely in anonymous and summarised
form for statistical purposes and for developing the website.

Use of cookies

‘Cookies’ are small files that enable us to store information related to your
computer and you, the user, specifically, whilst you visit one of our websites.
Cookies help us to determine how frequently our internet pages are accessed as
well as the number of users and they help us to configure our offers so that
they are as convenient and efficient as possible for you.

On the one hand, we use so-called ‘session cookies’ on the basis of Article 6
para 1 lit. f of the GDPR in order to optimise our website and to ensure the use
of our website is as convenient and user-friendly as possible. These cookies are
stored exclusively for the duration of your visit to our website. They are
deleted automatically when you close your browser. We use ‘persistent cookies’
for retaining information regarding visitors who repeatedly access one of our
internet pages, on the other. The purpose of using cookies is to be able to
offer you optimum user guidance as well as to ‘recognise’ you and thus be able
to present (as much as possible) diversified internet pages and new contents
during repeated use. When entering our website you will be informed via a
cookie-banner that you explain yourself in agreement with the use of cookies.
Article 6 para 1 lit. a of the GDPR provides the legal basis for the processing
of personal data by using cookies for analysis reasons and have given their
consent. (How to Manage Cookies).

We do not create an individual profile of your usage behaviour. The content of a
persistent cookie is limited to an identification number. Name, e-mail address,
IP address etc. are not saved. However, there are a few exceptions which are
indicated in our cookie table below.

Cookies can be categorised into the following four groups. Please note that
cookies can belong to more than one category.

Strictly necessary: these cookies are essential in order to enable you to move
around the website and use its features. Without these cookies, services you
have asked for cannot be provided.

Performance: these cookies collect information regarding how visitors use a
website, for instance which pages visitors go to most often. These cookies don’t
collect information that identifies a visitor. All the information these cookies
collect is aggregated and therefore anonymous. It is used only to improve how a
website works.

Functionality: these cookies allow the website to remember choices you make and
provide enhanced, more personalised features. For example, these cookies can be
used to record changes in font size, font and language. They may also be used to
provide services you have asked for such as watching a video or commenting on a
blog. The information these cookies collect may be made anonymous and they
cannot track your browsing activity on other websites.

Targeting or advertising: these cookies are used to deliver adverts more
relevant to you and your interests. They are also used to limit the number of
times you see an advertisement as well as help measure the effectiveness of the
advertising campaign. They are usually placed by advertising networks with the
website operator’s permission. They remember that you have visited a website and
this information is shared with other organisations such as advertisers. DHL
Express’ website does not currently use any targeting cookies.

Generally, we do not create an individual profile of your online activities. The
content of a persistent cookie is limited to an identification number. Name,
email address, IP address, etc., are not saved on the majority of our sites.
However, there are some exceptions which you can find in our cookie table below.

There are four exceptions:

1) Eloqua Tracking Cookie. The content of this persistent tracking cookie is
limited to an identification number and is generally used in exactly the same
way as all of our other persistent cookies. However, if you contact DHL using
certain online contact forms in the Logistics content area, your email address
is added to the cookie to create an individual profile of your online
activities. These same contact forms also provide you with an option to sign up
for email marketing updates. By giving your permission, this also allows us to
provide you with personalised content, offers or promotions that may interest
you.

Should you choose not to sign up for email marketing updates, you will not be
contacted in the future and your email address will only be used confidentially
by DHL internally to understand your individual online activities. This means
that we can still continue to deliver new and improved website content to suit
your specific needs.

You can learn more about the Eloqua Tracking cookie in the DHL Table of Cookies
below.

Alternatively, to opt out of being tracked by Eloqua across all websites (or to
reverse your setting if you have previously opted out), you can do so under 'How
to Manage Cookies' below.

2) MediaMind Tracking Cookies. These persistent tracking cookies collect your IP
address and uses it to provide geographical location data to help DHL monitor
and manage advertising campaigns. The cookies are completely encrypted and do
not collect any other personally-identifiable data, so the IP address cannot be
linked to personal data and is not shared with third parties. The IP address is
stored securely and only used confidentially by DHL internally to provide
aggregated reports. The cookies expire after 30 days.

You can learn more about MediaMind Tracking cookies in the DHL Table of Cookies
below.

Alternatively, to opt out of being tracked by MediaMind across all websites, you
can do so by clicking on the MediaMind Opt-Out link below:
MediaMind Opt-Out

If you've previously opted out, and would like to reverse your setting, click
the MediaMind Opt-In link below:
MediaMind Opt-In

3) Google Analytics Cookies. A small number of countries may use Google
Analytics cookies on a small scale for specific local purposes. These cookies
use your IP address as recognition, however do not identify you as an
individual. In other words, information is collected in an anonymous form. The
cookies collect information about how visitors use our local sites and use the
information to compile reports and to help us improve local sites.

You can learn more about Google Analytics in the DHL Table of Cookies below.

Alternatively, to opt out of being tracked by Google Analytics across all
websites, visit:
Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on

4) dotMailer Tracking Cookie. The content of this persistent tracking cookie is
limited to an identification number and is generally used in exactly the same
way as all of our other persistent cookies. However, if you are already a DHL
customer contact or you contact DHL using certain online contact forms in the
Logistics content area, your email address is added to the cookie to create an
individual profile of your online activities. These same contact forms also
provide you with an option to sign up for email marketing updates. By giving
your permission, this also allows us to provide you with personalized content,
offers or promotions that may interest you.

Should you choose not to sign up for email marketing updates, you will not be
contacted in the future and your email address will only be used confidentially
by DHL internally to understand your individual online activities. This means
that we can still continue to deliver new and improved website content to suit
your specific needs.

You can learn more about the dotMailer Tracking cookie in the DHL Table of
Cookies below.

THIRD PARTY COOKIES IN EMBEDDED CONTENT

Please note that on some pages of our websites you may notice that cookies have
been set that are not related to DHL. When you visit a page with content
embedded from, for example, YouTube or Vimeo, these service providers may set
their own cookies on your web browser. DHL does not control the use of these

WEB BEACONS

In order to keep DHL’s online content relevant, easy to use and up-to-date, we
use web analytics services such as Webtrends (See Webtrends entry in DHL Table
of Cookies above for more information.) to help us understand how people use our
websites. These services use data collection technologies such as web beacons.
Web beacons are small electronic images that deliver cookies, count visits, and
understand usage and website effectiveness. In turn, this lets us know what
content is of interest to our visitors and helps us provide tailored information
on our websites. These web beacons are anonymous and do not contain or collect
any information that identifies you. The information is anonymous and only used
for statistical purposes. These web analytics data and cookies cannot be used to
identify you as a natural person as they never contain personal information such
as your name or email address.
