INTENT & PURPOSE Monday, 29 July 2013 America in the 70’s » Really incredible collection of images from The Atlantic. Be sure to check out all five parts including this great series from the Northwest. Sunday, 9 June 2013 WWDC 2013 UNPREDICTIONS My prediction for tomorrow. Forget flat versus skeuomorphic. Forget Ive versus Forstall. What I hope to see is design that’s more than how it looks. Steve: > Design is how it works. A few others have said similar things. Friday, 7 June 2013 VSCO Cam » My friends at VSCO have released a major update to their Camera app for iOS. Beautifully designed, great filters, sharing features and your very own photoblog site to showcase your best shots. Users of the original Cam get a extra bonus: the original 10 filters. Pacific Helm » Pacific Helm released a new camera app, Camera Noir, early last week which is nicely designed (though, I prefer VSCO Cam). The cool part is the website. The video effect on the site they’re using is really nice. (most likely designed by Louis Mantia the designer behind your favorite/least favorite iOS app icons, among other things) Wednesday, 5 June 2013 Cutting the cord » A great series of posts by Ben Thompson on his blog, Stratechery, about the current state of TV, its future and what Apple might do. It’s not as exciting as what some rumor mongers might imagine, but it is carefully considered and, best of all, subversive. Parts one, two, three and Steve Jobs on TV and his Apple TV predictions. Friday, 31 May 2013 The Shape of Photography to Come » A preview of the new VSCO Cam, my favorite photo app. Made by my friends at VSCO. (With a bold reference to the best punk record of all time) Rorschach’s cat » John Moltz’ follow up to his recent Macworld piece. > Rorschach’s cat, which is like Schrödinger’s cat, but it’s dead or alive > depending on what you want to see. What we (should have) learned from the recession » Great post by my favorite Seattle architecture firm, BUILD, on the housing bubble. > Constantly trading up houses every 2 years to minimize real estate taxes and > maximize personal profits at the expense of everything else weakens > communities, promotes disposable housing, and inflates the bubble. Wednesday, 22 May 2013 CEO creates internal shake-up at Intel » > The shakeup, announced internally just days after the 30-year veteran took the > helm, places most of the main product groups of the world’s top chipmaker > directly under the CEO’s supervision and hands its sprawling global > manufacturing operation to new president Renee James I can’t help but wonder if this means Intel will be designing fewer chips. Everyone is bringing design in-house, including Intel’s customers. Tuesday, 21 May 2013 XBox One – Everything you need to know » The biggest surprise to me is how massive it is. No shipping date or pricing has been announced. Next Page
