Her cousin and her little daughter never came home tonight and she is desperate to find them. With temperatures dropping, no-one can survive outside for long… When Detective Jo Fournier’s cousin goes missing with her sweet five-year-old Alexia, Jo heads straight to where they were last seen. Her heart stops when she finds their unlocked car—one door has been left open and Alexia’s beloved teddy is lying in the snow. Jo’s blood runs cold as she realizes her family have been kidnapped… Even as she swears to bring them home, Jo makes a discovery that chills her to the bone: other young, single mothers have vanished with their little daughters just before Christmas. As Jo’s team re-open the cold cases, they make a terrible discovery. Buried deep under the snow in the forest near Oakhurst are the bones of a mother and daughter who disappeared. The snowy grave contains a little angel, the kind you would hang on a Christmas tree. With no sign of her cousin and little Alexia, Jo is sure that they are in the hands of a twisted serial killer and running out of time. Discovering suspicious activity in the security footage from the day her cousins were taken gives Jo the clue she’s been desperately searching for. Can Jo bring her family home safe, or has the killer lured her into a terrifying trap? From USA Today bestseller M.M. A really gripping mystery and the writing was spot on--not too descriptive or internal but I could really peer into the head of Jo's missing cousin, who's in a fight for her and her young daughter Alexia's lives. The plot is especially charged because going to the mall for Christmas shopping and to see Santa is something just about everyone does, never thinking it might all go peared-shaped in a matter of a few minutes and one kind but wrong decision. The suspense attached to the kidnapping continues through almost to the action climax and there are more than a few twists. The total picture of how and why they disappeared comes together in bits and pieces throughout the narrative. I really was not expecting the way the story ended and I enjoy a mystery that throws me off but in a way that, after the truth is revealed, I can totally get it. This was my first time reading a book by the author and I believe I could really get into this series. I liked Jo the detective, who has some issues at home but they don't take the focus away from the case. Of course, having the missing mother and child as close relatives makes their disappearance more personal but I never doubted that Jo Fournier would be just as dedicated to finding them if they were strangers, as her deepening the investigation to search for similar cases possibly connected demonstrates. I found Angels in the Snow a fascinating, page-turner story and would strongly recommend it to police procedural mystery lovers. Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion. … Show more Show less by Linda B. on 8 November, 2023 Was this helpful to you? Jo Fournier is back in Book 8 and its my favourite to date. The story was faced paced nail biting read that had you holding your breath with an ending you wont see coming. Jo and her team are frantically trying to find Jo's cousin and young daughter that have disappeared from the mall one day. Jo knows as the clock ticks the odds of finding them alive are diminishing. The tension mounts as we see Paxton struggling to help and protect her young daughter. Clear your schedule and settle in for a roller coaster of a read that will have you waning more. … Show more Show less by Judy O. on 9 November, 2023 Was this helpful to you? In this book, Jo is personally involved with a crime since her cousins are kidnapped and she is desperate to find them before it is too late. The book combines the genres of police procedural with family drama and high suspense. The pace is fast and furious as Jo races find Paxton and little Alexia, with lots of roadblocks and false clues along the way. The characters are realistic and the narrator switches between the police investigation to the perpetrator and his expectations for his captives. It was interesting to read how determined Paxton was to keep her and Alexia safe and play along with the “game” of the captor until she could figure out a possible way to escape. The setting was eerie, just creepy enough to give me chills, and the action was pulse pounding and realistic. I especially enjoyed how methodical Jo was in her investigation, following clues relentlessly. Because the victims are young and innocent, the book appealed to my need to see a quick and happy resolution. The crime was not the first one for this perpetrator though so there are a lot of red herrings and false trails for Jo and her team to follow before they find the right one. My favorite part of the book was the insight into the thought processes of the investigators and how tenacious they were. This book is enjoyable, compelling and intense with some clever twists and a satisfying conclusion. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. 👮🏼♀️👮🏼♀️ I don't even need to read an M.M Chouinard book again, I just have to say it's good, you should read it! It's another Detective Jo Fournier book and I loved it even though I didn't like the ending. 👮🏼♀️👮🏼♀️ This book started at a fast pace as usual with Jo's cousin and her daughter kidnapped, the book just kicked off like a rocket. Unsurprisingly, Jo turned all the stones in this case, she was as diligent as before. I felt like this case was harder because there was literally no evidence on the scene. So, I liked the unveiling of the perp. I think the perp got off easy, but I still understand it in a way. 👮🏼♀️👮🏼♀️ Paxton, the victim and mother of Alexia. She was very brave doing all she did. She was already mentally abused by her father, and she worked hard to let go of that trauma to save herself and her child, commendable! One of the things I'd have wanted for her was closure. I wished I had read her father getting punished for what he did. In addition, I also admire the previous mothers who tried to unsuccessfully escape, but still paved a way for others to escape. 👮🏼♀️👮🏼♀️ Jo was amazing as usual, but I didn't really get any of 'her and Matt' time and I wanted that. I'd love to read the next book (obviously) because Jo got a new 'something' and I'd like to see what next for her. 👮🏼♀️👮🏼♀️ Regardless, this book was very, very good. Now, tell me why you haven't read any of Detective Jo Fournier Series? It's very good and I promise you won't regret it 👮🏼♀️👮🏼♀️ … Show more Show less by Aishat Oduniyi on 10 November, 2023 Was this helpful to you? Yes No Thanks for your feedback! Her heart stops when she finds their unlocked car—one door has been left open and Alexia’s beloved teddy is lying in the snow. This is the first book I've read by this author and it won't be the last. I couldn't put Angels in the Snow down! Jo Fournier and her partner Bob Arnett head up a fabulous team. Not one of them held back in the search of finding out what had happened to Jo's cousins. Angels in the Snow flipped back and forth between the kidnapper's side of the story and Jo's, which added to the already nerve-wracking tension. It's a gripping story that will also tug on your heartstrings. I recommend it! Many thanks to both Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an early copy of Angels in the Snow.
