Please know that we always work with our partners at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to assess and investigate the credibility of any threats. The current social media posts have been deemed as not credible. As a precaution, our School Safety Department and partners at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will provide extra presence in our school communities. We understand that this situation can make people feel uneasy. However, please know that the safety and well-being of our school community is our top priority, and we will always investigate any incident thoroughly. In addition, our school site staff is trained in emergency situations. As always, students, families, and staff are strongly encouraged to report anything that makes them feel uncomfortable or concerned. We also recognize that this situation may have been distressing for some students. If your child needs any support, please do not hesitate to contact someone at school for assistance. Counselors will be available during school hours if your student needs to talk to someone. Thank you for your continued support and partnership. #NLMUnified Trigger Modal Close Modal Popup @nlmusd Join us for two forums next week as we seek input from our community to further build the profile for our next Superintendent. The first forum will be held on Monday, September 16, in the Norwalk High School Library from 6:00pm - 8:00pm. The second will be held on Wednesday, September 18, in the La Mirada High School MPR from 6:00pm - 8:00pm. The forums are open to all community members and will primarily seek input on the following questions: - What personal and professional qualities for an incoming Superintendent will be a match for the District? - What are the strengths of the District, and what are the challenges you see for the District in the coming years? If you are unable to attend either event, you can take our anonymous survey to offer input on the next Superintendent. The link to the survey is available in the link in our profile. #NLMUnified Trigger Modal Close Modal Popup @nlmusd 🚨 AWARD ALERT 🚨 We are pleased to announce that New River Elementary has been added to our PBIS awardees with their Gold Implementation Award! The honor ups the number of NLM PBIS recipients to eight, quadrupling the number our District had a year ago, and is the second Gold honoree joining Eastwood Elementary. California PBIS supports the sustainable development of a safe, equitable, and positive climate and social culture for all. Through the creation of learning communities, implementation leaders will access information and support leading to desired academic, behavior, and social-emotional outcomes for all California students, families, and communities. Congratulations to Principal Jody Gardner and her staff on this amazing achievement! #NLMUnified Trigger Modal Close Modal Popup @nlmusd At last night’s Board of Education meeting, Norwalk-La Mirada USD was presented with the ALICE Organization Certification by national trainer Ken Thaxter. This is the second year the District has reached this level. ALICE, which stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate, empowers individuals to participate in their own survival using proactive, options-based response strategies in the face of violence. The program is designed to ensure anyone can employ the strategies to survive a violent critical incident. To receive this certification 75% of the organization must complete the most current ALICE eLearning course; the District’s Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) must be updated with ALICE options-based strategies included within the active shooter annex portion of the EOP; and the District must have conducted at least one active shooter drill within the school year and have documented it for review. Big thanks to the District School Safety team, led by Chief Jesse Toscano and Officer Brian Patterson who spearheaded the District efforts to be ALICE certified. #NLMUnified Trigger Modal Close Modal Popup @nlmusd The Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District Board of Education is asking for your help in selecting our next Superintendent. To ensure this is a collaborative and inclusive process, the Board is providing an anonymous online survey and encourages your participation. The information generated from this anonymous survey will be used to develop a profile which indicates desired qualities and characteristics in the next Superintendent. The survey, which is available in English, Spanish, Korean, and Tagalog, is open to everyone in the NLM community including students and staff. The survey will be available until 4:00 p.m., on Friday, September 20.
