PROJECT HEADWAY: MANAGING IN TOXIC AND CHALLENGING ENVIRONMENTS

by Mark Mullaly, Ph.D., PMP
February 15, 2024 | 61:45 | Views: 3,218 | PDUs: 1.00 | Rating: 4.79 / 5

We all have experienced unpleasant or difficult solutions. What differs for an
uncomfortable solution is that the experience is isolated and temporary. Toxic
and challenging environments are problematic on a sustained basis. The
complication is not getting through the next meeting or the next morning, but
about making it through the year. And the next. And perhaps the one after that.
Successfully doing so draws on a range of skills and abilities. We have to
assess what is going on. We have to know what available strategies exist to
manage—or at least to cope. We have to weigh the potential benefits with the
consequences. Ultimately, we have to choose when to act. Sometimes we also have
to decide when not to act. If you’ve been confronted with a difficult and toxic
environment—or you fear encountering one in the future—this is a presentation
that you won’t want to miss.

Risk is an uncertain event or condition that, if it occurs, has a positive or
negative effect in outcomes of the organization. Positive risks are
opportunities, while negative risks are threats. In the post pandemic era we
have entered into a world of VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and
Ambiguity). VUCA demands that you must develop your competencies to identify and
understand risks and learn how to develop mastery in managing those. You must
have great deal of comfort in managing risk situations with ease in your
organization and thus Art of Managing Risk in the VUCA world is of paramount
importance.

SUSTAINABLE SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT - A PROJECT MANAGEMENT PERSPECTIVE

by Raju Rao
January 31, 2024 | 61:28 | Views: 1,253 | PDUs: 1.00 | Rating: 4.33 / 5

Supply Chain Management (SCM) is the practice of coordinating sourcing,
production, inventory management and transportation among all the actors and
focuses on speed, cost and reliability of operations. Sustainable SCM adds the
goals of environmental and social values to it and this means addressing global
issues such as climate change, water security, deforestation, human rights, fair
labour practices corruption etc. In short we have to consider all the
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN. SCM is inherently operational
though various projects could be identified within the chain. The Sustainability
paradigm has added another dimension for projects within SCM because many of the
initiatives being discussed now and in the near future are in fact projects.
These are guided by the recent interest in principles and practices of circular
economy, sustainable sourcing waste recovery & management, resource efficiency,
reverse logistics etc among others. At some point in time, possibly in the
coming decade, sustainability as a mindset will be fully set and one would view
it as a an operational parameter, till then all efforts to become sustainable
will be achieved largely through projects.
