Leap into Carrier Grade: Critical Core Networking Considerations for Nordic
Rural Expansion


ABOUT THIS EVENT

The Nordic countries have lead the EU and much of the world in broadband
deployment and digital adoption, grabbing top spots in the IMD global digital
competitive rankings over the top five years. The global pandemic, however has
put the spotlight on the remaining digital divide in rural, hard to reach areas
that are expensive to build out and with fewer subscribers. A total of 16 %
Nordic residents still do not have access to the technology they need. The
Nordic governments have pledged to continue the push to close the gap and
complete buildout to those now unconnected communities.

This discussion focuses on critical decisions on IP connectivity and security
that should be made early in the planning process for network expansion. The
price of scarce IPv4 addresses keeps rising and IPv4 must co-exist with IPv6 for
years to come. In addition, cyberthreats continue to rise, threatening the
progress towards digital transformation. Careful evaluation will let operators
avoid unexpected high costs, prepare a path to IPv6 migration and strengthen
security for the network and subscribers.
