NATIONAL SKATE COMPETITION

Another competition!  This one was the national skate competition, with people
coming in from several other states.  The girls did much better on this one -
each of them placing within the top 3 in their level.  Izzy entered into Basic 2
and Savanna and Olivia were in Novice 2.  There were only about 4 kids in each
of the lower levels so not too much competition!

Izzy came first!

In Novice 2, Savanna placed second and Olivia placed third!

Happy girls - had lots of fun and got to bring home trophies.

GIBRALTAR ROCKS

Towards the end of winter, we got to hike up to Gibraltar Rocks with some new
(and old) embassy friends.  Gorgeous, gorgeous day!

Good morning, fog.  Good morning, roos!

SOME RECENT PHOTOS

So much alike, these two!

Frozen yoghurt on a frozen day!

Love this one.

Shakka... and licking my finger too!

We took the kids bowling for the first time here!  They LOVED it... at least
for the first game.  Ryan was intent on buying a double game since it was a
better deal.  They lost interest sometime after the second one started and spent
most of their time after that playing around in the arcade!  It was a fun day
though.

First time bowling!

One evening we got to host dinner for an old friend who was back in town for
business!  Corinne was our neighbor for our first 2 years here and we really
miss seeing her and her family around the neighborhood!

Care package of so many US treats and goodies from the Mitchells!  We returned
the favor straight away.

His new favorite jumper.  Because dad bought it for him.

He almost never falls asleep on us anymore!  My big boy!

Huge hug of relief after performing at her violin recital at school!  Big thanks
to her amazing and loving teacher, Leah!

SKATE IN THE CITY

We were approached at our ice rink one day to see if my girls would like to be a
part of Canberra's Skate in the City program this year, and of course we said
yes!  It's an outdoor rink that is set up for just one month during the winter,
and puts on productions to get people excited about skating.  Actually, I
thought we had signed up for one show, so it seemed like no big deal.  I didn't
realize until the week before that it was going to be 2 shows a day for an
entire week.  I was exhausted by the whole thing when the week finally came to a
close, but the girls were so sad to see it end!  It was a really good
opportunity for them to learn a lot of new skills on the ice and be able to
perform like that.  They did very well, remembering a lot of moves and dealing
with some very long, early rehearsals in the cold weather the week before!  They
also learned to do each others make up and help behind the scenes.  Jack got
very good at amusing himself under the tables in the dressing room and flirting
with all of the older girls!  At one point, he asked to try on some of Izzy's
orange lipstick. I put some on him and he walked right over and planted a big
kiss on one of the teenage girl's cheeks!  Such a little flirt.

Their show was called Circus, and was a 15-minute production about a little
girl, Alex, who wanted to be in the circus but needed to learn all the right
tricks.

Opening scene

Izzy played the tiger, and made her appearance out of a basket with lots of
growls and clawing.  She totally stole the show!

Her favorite parts were being lifted up so much.

She also got to lean over the barrier and growl at the audience.  She was a
little confused on the first day, because she really thought she would be
scaring people, but all they did was laugh!  Bless her wee little orange boots.

Savanna and Olivia were given the roles of circus acrobats.  They loved their
sassy ribbon dance!

Here is the whole cast doing their silly faces!  The ring master in the purple
hat is only 16 years old and not only choreographed the entire show, but made
every costume from scratch as well!  That is one talented teenager!  The day
shows were for kids only so all participants are under the age of 18, but they
all took care of everything so responsibly, I was really impressed.
