This is an almost no sew pattern, it doesn’t require much sewing, only the tail fin needs to be sewn on. I love creating mini Amigurumi. With just a bit of yarn, you can easily create a cute gift in a few hours. There are many more mini Amigurumi on my blog, including full video tutorials. The small axolotl was made with Sport Weight Cotton yarn, and the bigger one with Super Bulky Chenille yarn. They are both made with the same pattern. You can use any yarn that you like to crochet this cute axolotl Amigurumi. Basic Stitches Tutorial: If you’re new to crocheting, don’t worry! Check out my beginner-friendly basic stitches tutorial, complete with numerous instructional videos. It covers everything you need to know to make your very own adorable Amigurumi. Video: I also have made a full video on YouTube on how to crochet every step of Lucy the Axolotl Amigurumi: MATERIALS: These are the materials that I used. However, feel free to replace them with other materials of your choice. Furthermore, if you wish to crochet a larger or smaller version of the elephant using this free axolotl amigurumi pattern, you can simply use a thicker or thinner yarn and crochet hook. Cotton Sport Weight version 11 cm / 4 inch: – Pink cotton yarn SMC Catania color: 246 – Dark pink cotton yarn SMC Catania color: 409 – Synthetic Poly Filling – Crochet hook size 2.5 mm – Safety eyes 1 pair: 8 mm Chenille Super Bulky version 23 cm / 9 inch: – Pink and dark pink Chenille yarn – Synthetic Poly Filling – Crochet hook size 5.0 mm – Safety eyes 1 pair: 15 mm Search for a similar chenille yarn you can buy near you on YARNSUB Supplies: – Scissors – Tapestry needles with blunt point, nr. 16 or 17 – Pins free axolotl amigurumi pattern TIP: Are you using are using Blanket yarn? Then I recommend a 8.0 mm crochet hook. For Bulky Velvet yarn I recommend a 3.5 mm crochet hook. Abbreviations used in this cute axolotl crochet pattern: (All abbreviations are explained in my basic stitches tutorial) Rnd: Round st: stitch sc: single crochet sl st: slip stitch dec: decrease inc: increase FREE AXOLOTL CROCHET PATTERN Gill 6x: * Use dark pink yarn * Rnd 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring (6) * Rnd 2-4: sc in all 6 st (6) * Fasten off with a slst. Fold the gills to flatten them. Legs 4x: * Use pink yarn * Rnd 1: start 8 sc in a magic ring (8) * Rnd 2: sc in all 8 st (8) * Rnd 3: (sc in next 2 st, dec) repeat 2 times (6) * Rnd 4-6: sc in all 6 st (6) * Fasten off with a slst. Put a bit of stuffing in the legs. Fold the last rounds of the legs to flatten them. Body: * Use pink yarn * Rnd 1: start 6 sc in a magic ring (6) * Rnd 2: inc 6 times (12) * Rnd 3: (sc in next st, inc in next st) repeat 6 times (18) * Rnd 4: (sc in next 2 st, inc in next st) repeat 6 times (24) * Rnd 5: sc in all 24 st (24) * Rnd 6: (sc in next 3 st, inc in next st) repeat 6 times (30) * Rnd 7-8: sc in all 30 st (30) * In round 9 we are going to attach the gills to the body, flatten the gill to crochet through 2 stitches of the gills at once (photo 1-3). * Rnd 9: sc in next 4 st, (going through the flattened gill stitches and the body: sc in next 3 st) repeat this 3 times, sc in next 6 st, (going through the flattened gill stitches and the body: sc in next 3 st) repeat this 3 times, sc in next 2 st (30) * See photo’s below or watch my full video axolotl amigurumi tutorial for more help: * Rnd 10: sc in all 30 st (30) * Attach the eyes by putting the safety eyes between rounds 3 and 4, with an interspace of 8 stitches top side. * Rnd 11: (sc in next 3 st, dec) repeat 6 times (24) * Rnd 12: (sc in next st, dec) repeat 8 times (16) * Rnd 13: sc in all 16 st (16) * Rnd 14: (sc in next 3 st, inc in next st) repeat 4 times (20) * Rnd 15: sc in next 3 st, going through the flattened leg stitches and the body: sc in next 3 st, sc in next 11 st, going through the flattened leg stitches and the body: sc in next 3 st (20) * Stuff the body with fiberfill and continue stuffing as you go. * Rnd 16: (sc in next 4 st, inc in next st) repeat 4 times (24) * Rnd 17-19: sc in all 24 st (24) * Rnd 20: dec, sc in next st, dec, going through the flattened leg stitches and the body: sc in next 3 st, sc in next st, dec, sc in next 2 st, dec, sc in next st, dec, sc in next st, dec, going through the flattened leg stitches and the body: sc in next 3 st (18) * Rnd 21: (sc in next st, dec) repeat 6 times (12) * Rnd 22: sc in all 12 st (12) * Rnd 23: (sc in next 2 st, dec) repeat 3 times (9) * Rnd 24-25: sc in all 9 st (9) * Rnd 26: (sc in next st, dec) repeat 3 times (6) * Rnd 27: sc in all 6 st (6) * Fasten off, leaving a yarn tail. Using your yarn needle, weave the yarn tail through the front loop of each remaining stitch and pull it tight to close. axolotl crochet pattern Tail Fin: * Use dark pink yarn * Ch 8. Work in rows * Row 1: start in second ch from hook, slst in next st, sc in next st, inc in next st, sc 3 times in next st, inc in next st, sc in next st, slst in next st (9) * Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. * Line up the tail fin piece so it’s wrapped over rounds 1 – 3 of the bottom of the tail (see photo’s below).
