STORY

Ashes of Mankind: Citadels is an immersive, tactical FPS set in a dystopian
future. Players embody Revenants, elite, genetically enhanced warriors,
navigating a world torn by endless wars. 

Set against the backdrop of the Citadel and the rugged landscapes of Ortus, the
game challenges players to confront moral choices and survive relentless
battles. Created by Black Ice Studios, a team of gamers, ex-military, and
industry veterans based in Canada, this game combines hardcore realism with
lore-rich storytelling to deliver an experience that almost feels like a
survival simulator.

gamers. Featuring a mix of extraction-based gameplay, first-person immersion,
and unforgiving realism, this game emphasizes skill and survival.


GAMEPLAY

Gameplay Loop
The core gameplay loop is all about survival: players squad up, engage in brutal
PvP/PvE battles, gather loot, and execute high-stakes extractions. While Ashes
of Mankind offers a detailed, simulator-like experience, it’s far from just
another dry simulation game, it’s fun, dynamic, and rewarding. Black Ice Studios
emphasizes teamwork and tactical decisions, where every move matters. With
extensive customization options, meticulously designed weapons, amazing
graphics, and immersive mechanics, this is a game built for players who crave
both depth and excitement.

Players will experience a mix of mission-based modes, free-for-all skirmishes,
and cooperative gameplay, offering varied challenges and rewards. Built by an
international team of gamers and veterans, this game is engineered to push
players to their limits with depth and intensity.

Character Customization
Character customization in Ashes of Mankind is designed with depth, detail, and
player identity in mind. Our approach allows players to customize their
character’s appearance to a granular level, with options spanning a wide variety
of aesthetic details—from clothing and armor color schemes to unique insignias
and faction-based accessories.

The customization system offers the freedom to create a character that feels
truly unique within the game’s universe, reflecting individual player style and
the narrative they want to embody. Unlike traditional systems, AOM’s character
customization emphasizes a level of detail often seen in RPGs, combining a large
set of options with a focus on realism and thematic immersion, so that each
character looks both distinctive and integrated within the world of Ortus.

Weapon Customization
AOM takes gameplay customization to the next level, especially with weapons,
body armor, rigs, and helmets. Players can modify each piece of gear with
tactical components and attachments, creating an open-ended, adaptive loadout
system. For instance, body armors can be outfitted with modular pouches and
utilities, allowing players to configure an “open-ended class” based on chosen
equipment. This means loadouts aren’t fixed but are instead dictated by the
mission, playstyle, and gear players bring with them, mirroring real-world
military loadout planning.
 

The team's focus on detail means that every attachments and mods, whether they
are for armors, rigs or weapons, are designed to affect both gameplay mechanics
and appearance. Carrying more magazine pouches might be great to have extra
ammunition, but having many of them might have an impact on your character
actions. This level of customization makes AOM unique, as it empowers players to
craft their own playstyle.


THE WORLD

Set on the war-torn planet of Ortus, a brutal frontier where factions vie for
control. Ashes of Mankind unfolds in a rich, lore-heavy environment. Elements
like E.M.A., a sentient virtual intelligence, GRIM, the Citadel's malicious
security system, the Citadel, and the Revenants, genetically enhanced soldiers
navigating this bleak universe.

Planet Ortus


CHARACTERS



Revenants are elite, genetically enhanced soldiers. They were created from
history's greatest warriors, given new life and abilities through advanced
genetic engineering and the L.I.F.E. implant. Examples like Evie and Ajax bring
unique skills and traits to the game, providing players with a range of
characters to experience the world of Ortus.



Ajax "Kyros" Lysandros
Ajax was molded into a weapon of war in Sparta, enduring brutal training from a
young age. Known as "Kyros," a name symbolizing unbreakable resolve, he rose as
a fierce Spartan warrior. His valor shone at the Battle of Thermopylae alongside
the famed 300 Spartans, where he fought with unyielding bravery. Although he
died in this final stand, Ajax was resurrected as a Revenant. His tactical
ability, Phalanx, allows him to project a shield that absorbs incoming fire, a
reflection of his steadfast nature.



Evie "Sigr" Haldorsen
Hailing from 9th-century Norway, Evie grew up amidst the cold fjords, where she
inherited her father’s unrelenting warrior spirit. Nicknamed "Sigr," meaning
"victory," she led her warriors with ruthless precision. Mortally wounded during
a raid, she swore an oath to the old gods for another chance at glory. Now a
Revenant, her ability Frostveil envelops enemies in a chilling mist, slowing and
obscuring them. As "Sigr," Evie seeks victory at any cost, dominating the
battlefield with calculated ferocity.  



Mounir "Djinn" Al-Bakkar
Born in North Africa's deserts, Mounir earned the nickname "Djinn" for his
ghostly ability to move through the sands unseen. A master of guerrilla warfare,
he used the desert to his advantage, becoming a legend for his elusiveness.
Reborn as a Revenant, his Echo ability warns him of enemy detection efforts,
allowing him to stay one step ahead. As "Djinn," he continues to haunt his
enemies with unmatched stealth.



Sadako "Kurai" Tanaka
Raised in the shadows of Japan’s Yakuza underworld, Sadako mastered the art of
survival. She earned the name "Kurai," meaning "dark," for her skill in
eliminating targets without a trace. Betrayed by her syndicate, she returned as
a Revenant, seeking vengeance. Her Blackout ability lets her manipulate light
and technology, engulfing enemies in darkness. As "Kurai," she embodies the
shadows, exacting revenge on those who wronged her.

These are just some of the characters available in Ashes of Mankind. More
characters will be released every season when the game is live.


DESIGN

The game’s design team includes industry veterans passionate about creating a
visually immersive, hyper-realistic experience. The Citadel’s vertical
megastructure and Ortus’s rugged landscape come to life with high detail and
atmospheric depth. 

With backgrounds at Epic Games, EA, Activision, Ubisoft, and more, this team
brings deep expertise to every detail. Ashes of Mankind is led by Adrien David
(Co-Founder & CEO), Obinna Oparah (Co-Founder & CTO), and Mustafa Top
(Co-Founder & Director of Engineering), alongside Joel Fashingbauer (COO) and
Doug Kennedy (CRO).

Example of Realism and Visuals

The team's art and animation vision is crafted by Sebastien Hue (Art Director)
and Enrique Barahona (Animation Director), supported by Mark Bos (3D Tech
Director), and his team, Pavel Pustovoit (Lead Concept Artist), and Maxime
Schilde (Concept Artist).

Tim Fields, ex-Kabam, and Doug Kennedy, Co-Founder and CEO of Wildcard, bring
their industry experience as advisors to the CEO and board members. 

Together, the team brings Ashes of Mankind’s world to life, from the towering
Citadel to the rugged landscape of Ortus, each designed with striking realism
and atmospheric depth.


INSPIRATION

The game draws inspiration from military realism, dystopian fiction, and
tactical survival games, delivering a visually immersive, simulator-like
experience focused on moral choices and survival. Created by a team of gamers
and an ex-military professional, Ashes of Mankind combines intense realism with

RISIKEN UND HERAUSFORDERUNGEN

key risks Black Ice Studios foresees and how they plan to overcome them: 1.
Technical Performance Optimization Risk: Our game runs on Unreal Engine 5, which

will be allocated, if necessary, to bring in Unreal Engine experts to ensure the
