Ottawa-Vanier Liberal MP Mona Fortier has been appointed chief government whip
in Parliament, the prime minister’s office announced Saturday.



It was the latest part of a major cabinet shuffle announced by Prime Minister
Justin Trudeau on Friday.



The government whip is a key organizational job, tasked with ensuring that MPs
are in the chamber for debates and votes, determining which committees MPs will
sit on and assigning offices and seats in the House of Commons.

First elected in 2017 and re-elected twice, Fortier has previously held various
cabinet positions, including President of the Treasury Board, minister of
middle-class prosperity and associate minister of finance.



Since January, she has been serving as deputy whip for the government.



Before entering politics, Fortier was chief director of communications and
market development at Collège La Cité. She also managed her own
communications-consulting firm.
