The federal court case over a proposed $24.6 billion sale of Albertsons to rival
Kroger has reliably filled a main courtroom and, often, an overflow room, where
proceedings can be viewed on a television screen.

Aside from the litigants, their lawyers, legal analysts and media, other
spectators have included a flock of Wall Street investment advisers and merger
arbitrageurs — many of whom watched three weeks of proceedings from opening
arguments last month to Tuesday morning’s closing statements.
