PUTTING OUR COMMUNITY FIRST

Santa Cruz was once deemed "The Leftmost City," celebrated as a "deviant case"
from the typical real estate and development interests power that permeates the
United States. 30 years on, that vision of Santa Cruz has all but vanished:
ever-increasing rents, pervasive housing insecurity, and dwindling community
culture have been the consequence of a city council controlled by establishment
Democrats–and by proxy–the real estate industry.

Now, more than ever, we need to build socialist organization that is not
beholden to Democratic Party donors and capitalist class interests. That means
building worker power! Tenant power! Student power! Community power!

socialists want collective, democratic ownership of our economy and
decision-making power in the hands of workers— not private individuals or the

TENANT ORGANIZING COMMITTEE

SEIU Local 521, 517 Mission St B, Santa Cruz, CA 95060, USAThe Tenant Organizing
Committee meets weekly. Our goal is to support tenants in Santa Cruz county to
create our own organizations to fight the power of landlords and the real estate
industry. Our current project is a survey of DSA membership to learn about
members’ living conditions and to support members in forming tenant
organizations to better those conditions and gain power in their homes.

WE PROTECT US: RESPONDING TO POLICE VIOLENCE

Join the DSA National Abolition Working Group for a mass call on responding to
police violence. Register Here.

Police in the U.S. killed at least 1,176 people in 2022 and have harmed and
harassed more people than will ever be counted. They have arrested protestors in
the streets after a murder has occurred and have targeted activists, organizers,
and encampments resisting police violence and expansion.

This meeting provides space for chapters to learn how DSA members have organized
in response to police violence and why organizers across 'issues' need to see
this as part of their work as socialists. See you there!

BDS & PALESTINIAN SOLIDARITY WORKING GROUP

Join us for a coalition meeting of local Palestinian solidarity groups and
organizers. Find out what local actions are being planned, connect with campus
organizers with Students for Justice in Palestine, and learn how you can
participate in fighting US and Israeli imperialism.  
It will also be a chance to get plugged in to local organizing in support of the
nationwide DSA campaign, No Appetit for Apartheid- which encourages grocery
stores to commit to not stocking products of Israeli companies and other
companies that are complicit in the occupation.
