I'm curious about the representation of Nigeria within the African Development
Bank (AfDB). Currently, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina and Mr. Opadokun serve as de facto
representatives from Nigeria while also holding key positions within the AfDB.
Wouldn't it benefit Nigeria to have a dedicated representative focusing solely
on national interests? Given Dr. Adesina's dual role as AfDB President and a
Nigerian citizen, a clear separation could better prioritize Nigeria's needs
within AfDB policies. This delineation could enhance Nigeria’s advocacy and
ensure its development goals are more effectively addressed. Thoughts?

Are these leaders really discussing the development of this continent? It’s sad
that nothing changes anywhere in Africa. Corruption and stealing alone takes
about 60% of developmental resources. Africa needs dual leadership! Democracy
and military supervision. We are just sick and tired of these political
thievery.. So many resources, we vote leaders and they sign corrupt contracts
with international companies, especially oil and gas, energy, mines to benefit
yet their unborn grandchildren. “How can a 60+years old man be stealing for his
grandchildren whose fathers and mothers are not even married yet” it’s a shame!!

It is concerning that out of 19 discussants, only 1 woman Leader will speak on

It is great to see leaders talking and agreeing on a common position for
Africa's transformation. These agreements need to be translated into actions
that are implementable. Looking forward to the outcomes of the dialogue.

I recently attended the African Development Bank (AfDB) Annual Meetings in
Nairobi, Kenya, from May 27-31, 2024. This prestigious event brought together
high-level decision-makers from across Africa, key officials from development
agencies, leading academics, and representatives from NGOs, civil society,
and the private sector. The theme, "Africa’s Transformation, African
Development Bank Group, and Reform of the Global Financial Architecture," led
to insightful discussions on the structural changes needed for socio-economic
development across the continent. A notable side session with the African
Forum and Network on Debt and Development (AFRODAD) focused on "Allocation to
Utilization - Shaping Africa's Voice on Special Drawing Rights Through the
Global Financial Architecture." These sessions emphasized the need for a
reconfigured global financial system as a catalyst for Africa’s
transformation, highlighting the importance of rechanneling SDRs through
Multilateral Development Banks and the Liquidity and Sustainability Facility
to provide affordable finance tailored to Africa’s needs. #AfDB2024

"African countries need to pay closer attention to the cost of borrowing.
Credit ratings set benchmarks that lead to price risks globally, including in
Africa, but many African nations are not adequately prepared for this
process." As we gear up for our Developing Credit Rating Solutions for
Africa’s Financial Needs panel on 📆May 28th, Raymond Gilpin Chief Economist
UNDP Africa spoke to CNBC Africa about the impact of subjective credit
ratings on access to development financing to African countries. He also
highlighted how the UNDP Africa- AfriCatalyst Africa credit ratings
initiative aims to enhance African countries' capacity to analyze risk and
make the rating process more development-friendly. Register for the event

Reform the global financial architecture. It was with this objective that
African leaders gathered at the 2024 Annual Meetings of the African
Development Bank Group, in Nairobi, Kenya. Several meetings and encounters
between leaders resulted in investment intentions to strengthen mainly the
African continent in light of the 5 priorities highlighted in this 2024
   Annual Meetings: Light up and Power Africa; Feed Africa; Integrate Africa;
Industrialize Africa and Improve the quality of life for the people of
Africa. More details in the comments! #JGPolo #AfDBAM2024
