TIKTOK IS ONE OF NEW YORK'S MOST POPULAR SOCIAL MEDIA SITE

TikTok is one of the most popular social media sites in the world. Over 1.22
billion people access TikTok each month, according to Buffer.
Only Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube, Instagram and WeChat have more monthly active
users.
Facebook has over 3 billion monthly active users.

WHY US OFFICIALS ARE WORRIED ABOUT TIKTOK
On Tuesday, Intelligence officials briefed House lawmakers about the dangers of
TikTok.
Lawmakers are concerned the app gives the Chinese government sweeping access to
American user data.

LAWMAKERS MAY BAN TIKTOK IN THE UNITED STATES

The intelligence briefing came one day before a highly-anticipated that could
ultimately ban TikTok in the U.S.
On Wednesday, House Republicans plan to move forward with a vote that would ban
TikTok in the U.S.
If passed, President Joe Biden has already said he will sign the bill into law.

U.S. lawmakers want TikTok's Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to sell to an
American owner in an attempt to address national security concerns. If the bill
is passed and TikTok doesn't sell to an American, the app will be banned.
WHAT DOES DONALD TRUMP THINK?
Former President Donald Trump, who secured the Republican nomination on Tuesday,
is against a TikTok ban.

He believes a ban on TikTok will only increase Facebook's reach. He called
Facebook the "enemy of the people."

I learned about this challenge from Shannon Holly from our Jersey Shore Morning
Show.
Kids are being challenged to remove the orange cones that authorities place over
potholes during the night time. The more cones they remove, the more points they
get.

THE OUTLET CHALLENGE
According to NBCBoston.com, this challenge involved having kids stick the plug
of a phone charger partially into an outlet. They would, "then slide a penny
down the wall onto the exposed prongs."
The goal would be to capture sparks on camera.
However, this stunt resulted in damage to a home's electrical system,
electrocution or massive fires. Fire Departments even issued warnings about this
challenge after seeing homes burn down.

This challenge reaches a new level because physical violence is involved.
Teens were challenged to walk up to a teacher or school staff member, slap them
in the face while being filmed and then to run away.

The Blue Whale Challenge

According to TheOneSpy.com, this challenge involves completing an online game
composed of 50 challenges.
But these challenges are dangerous and self harming. One example is, "to make a
whale on the skin of your body, wake someone up at 3:00 AM and even commit
suicide at the end of the game."

This challenge involves kids destroying school signs while on camera.
It is not very smart because part of the challenge is to post the footage which
will automatically get you caught.

ORBEEZ CHALLENGE
Shannon Holly of our Jersey Shore Morning Show told me about one of the most
recent TikTok challenges.
It's called the Orbeez Challenge. Teenagers have been freezing these balls,
loading them into an airsoft gun and using them for drive by shootings. It has
even happened in Point Pleasant.
When frozen, these things are basically like bullets and can cause some real
damage.

This challenge dares users to mix raw chicken with a huge amount of
sedative-type cough syrup. You then cook it and eat it.
Health experts say that this recipe makes the cough syrup, "far more
concentrated and greatly increases the chance of a deadly overdose."

Kids are taking erasers and continuously rubbing it against their own skin.
Eventually, the eraser will start to burn and scar the skin but the challenge is
for the person to bear through the pain for as long as possible.

The basic premise behind this challenge is to successfully steal something while
being filmed.
But again...you can't exactly get away with the crime if you post it to social
media shortly after the crime has been committed.
The Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge

After Kylie Jenner got her lips done, kids were doing this challenge to have
lips that look just like hers.
They would insert their lips into a glass or jar, suck their lips until it
became a sealed vacuum and after a few minutes release their lips to see them
double or even triple in size.
Blood vessels may have been damaged.

MILK CRATE CHALLENGE
The challenge here is to take milk crates (like the ones seen above), stack them
in a pyramid and one person has to try and climb to the top.
Obviously, very few actually made it to the top before the entire structure
collapsed so there were many injuries. This one was even banned by TikTok.

Kids would take two large gallons of milk -- or any other beverage -- throw them
up in the air and pretend to fall.
The liquids would obviously get everywhere and there were numerous reports of
broken jaws and other injuries from the fall taken.
Everything would be recorded on camera.

This is one of the most well-known after receiving national coverage on the
news.
Kids were being dared to eat an entire Tide Pod on camera -- yes, the stuff with
detergent and other toxic chemicals.
Many kids sent themselves to the hospital trying this one out.

A list highlights the worst places a New York resident can call home. A number
of places in the Hudson Valley made the list, including one that was ranked the
worst place to live.

Money Inc. agrees with Roadsnacks and named Monticello the worst place to live
in New York. Monticello was placed first because it has the worst unemployment
rate in the state and lack of leisure options. Hudson Valley Post disagrees. In
our opinion, there are a number of things to do in including Resorts World
Catskills and The Kartrite Resort & Indoor Waterpark.

The Giant Hogweed, Heracleum mantegazzianum, is found all over New York State.
Including in the Hudson Valley, according to the DEC.

The plant, which Science Alert calls a "giant horror plant," is a federally
listed noxious weed. Its sap, when mixed with moisture and sunlight, can cause
severe skin and eye irritation, painful blistering, permanent scarring and even
blindness, according to the DEC.

leads to a very bad sunburn. Heat and moisture worsen your skin's reaction. Pain

also grow in partially shaded habitats, officials say.

The plant can grow to 14 feet or more. Its hollow, ridged stems grow 2-4 inches
in diameter and have dark reddish-purple blotches. Its large compound leaves can
grow up to 5 feet wide. Its white flower heads can grow up to 2 1/2 feet in
diameter, the DEC adds.
