A cliff-top San Francisco mansion that once belonged to the actress Sharon Stone
is listing for $39 million.

Located in the tony Sea Cliff neighborhood on the northwestern edge of the city,
the roughly 8,500-square-foot house was built in the early 1900s, according to
listing agent Neal Ward of Compass. It is one of just 25 homes perched on a
cliff above Baker Beach with direct views of the Pacific Ocean, the Golden Gate
Bridge and the Marin Headlands, he said.

The roughly 8,500-square-foot house has seven bedrooms.

The sellers are dentist Faranak Aliabadi and her ex-husband, entrepreneur
Dariush Meykadeh. They bought the house for $13 million in 2005, records show.
They are selling because their daughter is going to college, according to Dr.
Aliabadi, who said she wants to travel more. Dr. Aliabadi, who emigrated from
Iran in the 1980s, also owns a vineyard in the Napa Valley where she grows
grapes and olives.

According to Mr. Ward, the house was built at the turn of the 20th century. Ms.
Stone purchased it in 1998 with her then-husband, journalist Phil Bronstein.

The U-shaped house has a red-tile roof and a courtyard that Dr. Aliabadi called
a “Zen garden,” with bamboo and palm trees. Visitors pass through a small gate
into the courtyard and then enter the home through french doors. The home has
seven bedrooms and a pair of two-car garages. There is also a separate guest
entrance and a staff entrance.

Dr. Aliabadi said she was drawn to the property’s views and setting before she
even set foot inside the house. “You’re living at the edge of the Pacific
Ocean,” she said, describing a spot on the horizon where the ocean meets San
Francisco Bay.

The main floor has a terrace and a wooden staircase leading to a second deck and
access to Baker Beach. Dr. Aliabadi said the house is one of a few with direct
beach access; she can walk to the base of the Golden Gate Bridge in about 20
minutes.

Dr. Aliabadi said although the house has been updated inside with a new kitchen
and baths, “it still has its old charm.” There are gold-foil ceilings, dark wood
parquet floors and custom fireplaces, according to the listing. Large picture
windows maximize the water views. At night, Dr. Aliabadi said, she likes to
watch illuminated cruise and cargo ships pass by.

“I lived there for 18 years; not once would you see the same sunset,” she said.

With its rugged shoreline and dramatic views, Sea Cliff has attracted residents
such as Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey and former presidential candidate Tom
Steyer, records show. The median home sale price for the neighborhood was just
over $4 million between October 2021 and April 2022, according to Compass data.

Citywide, the median sale price for houses rose to nearly $1.9 million in the
first quarter, up 14% from the same period of last year. In general, San
Francisco’s luxury market is seeing strong demand from Silicon Valley players,
Mr. Ward said. “Even though the stock market isn’t doing well right now, we have
people here with extraordinary means,” he said.
