Re-Ciclo’s innovative approach to waste management, combining e-mobility with
empowering and dignifying informal workers, has increased recycling rates and
changed a city’s culture around waste picking.

FORTALEZA


Like many Brazilian cities, Fortaleza faced an escalating municipal waste
challenge and very low recycling rates.

 

First launched in 2019, the pilot project that would evolve into Re-Ciclo has
transformed public perceptions around recycling, empowered and formalized waste
pickers, and created a more sustainable, integrated city.

transformation. It seeks to inspire urban changemakers across the globe by
amplifying lessons and telling impactful stories of transformative change. Learn
