HANDYMAN HINTS: GOOD WOOD-BURNING HABITS, UNTIL YOU SWITCH TO GAS Today we’re reviewing some good burning habits regarding our woodstove or fireplace. Chris Emard 3 hours ago Column 2. HONOURING A FAIR FAMILY The Norwood Fair! — What sort of an image comes into your mind when you read those first few words? For many the word “fair” likely conjures up a picture of midway rides and cotton candy, perhaps for the more agricultural based folks, images of farm animals and competitions would be the norm. The common denominator for both of these groups is the fact that they are guests and possibly participants that have come to enjoy the sights and sounds that have made the Norwood Fair one of the best fairs going (and yes, I am biased). There is another group however whose first thoughts do not necessarily dwell on what one might call the normal facets of the fair. This large group is the volunteers that make the fair happen each year, their experiences are different, their fair weekend is not three days, it is actually five days because it includes the setup and the take down and for many if not most it is these two extra days that are the most memorable for them. The images in their minds when you mention the fair is more likely to include memories of placing fencing, garbage cans and other equipment to prepare the grounds; and perhaps more importantly their thoughts may visualize the gathering together on the Friday morning for coffee or to the Tuesday afternoon lunch together after everything is nearly put away. The fair is a family; a family of volunteers, some may not see or talk to each much over the year however for those few days the banter and the camaraderie are renewed and the spirit of fellowship that makes them return year after year is refreshed.
