Ceasefire in Palestine workplace days of action UHUCU supported the two
workplace days of action, called by national UCU, held on 10 October and 28
November. We distributed leaflets and engaged in discussion with students and
staff at College Lane

a request from the University of Hertfordshire Refugee Support Group The
University of Hertfordshire Refugee Support Group is planning to visit Calais in
March 2025. Partnering with Care4Calais, it aims to distribute clothes, tents,
and warm drinks to displaced individuals in the area

The Open University is threatening to fire and rehire lecturers who won't accept
a reduction in working hours and pay - having previously promised those staff

'Cost of Living Payment' was negotiated by your UCU branch. Though not as much
as we asked for, it was a win We will continue to demand a full

Reading the poorly-informed opinion pieces about UK Higher Education would be a
whole lot less infuriating if: 1) they didn't treat universities as monolith,
and differentiated between managers & staff 2) didn't treat the sector as
monolith, and acknowledged the different pressures & knock-on effect

new Vice Chancellor, to resume negotiations for an Outer London/Hertfordshire
salary weighting for all staff 2. working to reform the EQUATE process for
academic promotions to ensure equity and fair treatment

UCU branches' social are having conversations about what to do. For now it seems
our bosses would be too happy in us exiting a space where we'd managed to get
other voices heard, draw public attention to matters bosses would prefer to have
gotten away with quietly. But it's something to monitor.
