BELLS BEACH OLIVE COMPANY EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL. COLD PRESSED. UNFILTERED. MENU Skip to content * About * News * History * Photo Gallery * Contact Search for: ABOUT The Bells Beach Olive Company trees were planted in 1997 and 1999 by the Lewis family and friends (thanks Darren, Bruce, Kerrie, Matthew and Simon – we haven’t forgotten). The site is about 2km as the crow flies from the famous Bells Beach. To say they were planted in cool conditions doesn’t really do it justice. Cool with bright sunshine in 1997 but hail and rain in our marathon session in 1999. The trees then endured almost a decade of drought, fully testing their survival techniques. But survive they did and they now thrive on a site where the surf (and the surf contests) can be heard on the wind while they are afforded protection from the natural bush forests that surround them. Harvest time is around early June, where we hand pick the olives (thank goodness for kids and the ever-present family and friends). The olives are then cold pressed and bottled on the estate either the same day or early the next using our little old Italian olive press and associated equipment. Some of the oil we leave unfiltered so it will have a little cloudiness and perhaps even some olive sediment over time. This unfiltered variety tends to pack a bit of a flavour punch. The filtered oil has grassy and fruity flavours to it (Susie gets Bananas on the nose) and is very smooth. Olive Oil does not last, so enjoy it fresh. Proudly powered by WordPress
