Many believed the backlog situation would be addressed as soon as 2021. However, recent data shows us that while most countries’ private sectors are above pre-pandemic levels (including substantial growth in Brazil), not a single public system in LATAM has been able to efficiently and effectively address the issue. With that said, signs of more being done are accelerating, and in this month’s report, we highlight the additional budget assigned to the Ministry of Health in Brazil and Mexico’s shift to a federally managed public health system. Meanwhile, we have had significant developments on the reform fronts in Colombia and Chile. Colombia will host a run-off election in the second half of June, pitting two candidates with significant reform proposals against one another (proposals that include new ideas on medicine pricing). In Chile, a final draft of the healthcare guarantees and language to be included in the new constitution has been released, which must be approved by September, but it will still take two years of subsequent legislative action to hammer out the details. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ALEC LEE 13 June 2022 ABOUT FRONTIERVIEW At FrontierView, our mission is to help our clients with their growth strategies in international markets, focusing specifically on the geopolitical and macroeconomic developments.
