This "Dusty Old Violin Shop" is a well-established violin repair shop that has been in business since 1928. Located in the historic Green Hotel at the corner of Fair Oaks and Green Street. Customers will find a wide variety of violins, violas, cellos and basses in various states of repair, some dating back to the 18th century. The shop's luthier has been working there since the 1970s, and is a true craftsman with a wealth of knowledge and skill when it comes to repairing and restoring violin family instruments and their bows. Customers tell me that the shop reminds them of old traditional Europian violin shops. From simple setups to complex restorations, this "Dusty Old Violin Shop" is dedicated to bringing new life to these beautiful instruments and ensuring they are playable for many years to come. If you need to get in touch with me, please call (626) 795-2870 and leave a message on my machine. I check messages daily and will return your call. Or, if you want to send me an e-mail Click Here. Thanks, Craig -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I rent violin, viola and cellos. Small size violin rentals are $12 per month including tax and full size violins are $14 per month including tax. Larger size violas rent $ 18 per month including tax and cellos rent for $35 per month including tax. I have all sizes and they are adjusted by fitting bridges, adjusting the pegs, nut and sound post. Please call ahead if you know what size instrument your child needs so that I can make sure I have one set up. Additional Rental Information. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We are located in historic Old Town Pasadena at the corner of Fair Oaks and Green in the Green Hotel. Reply # 13 Thursday, 05/11/2023 Sheila Crain Hi -When I was in last Tuesday you showed me a QSR code to get to the cleaning instructions for my case. I could see the page at the time, but I can't find it now. Can you send me the link? Thanks!! Carpet Beetle Reply Thursday, 06/01/2023 Craig Scollard Sheila, Here is a link to that page. Case Cleaning Thanks, Craig Best shop Reply # 12 Sunday, 02/12/2023 Hector Ortiz I attended San Rafael elementary in Pasadena and remember renting a violin sorry unable to remember the name of the gentleman helping me and my parents but was the best service I’m 45 now glad to hear it’s still open Praise Reply # 11 Thursday, 08/04/2022 JUDITH ALLER I have only praise for the high standard of workmanship Craig Scollard has delivered to his customers for as long as I have known him (which is quite a long time). In 1932, my grandfather the master cellist and teacher Gregory Aller took his bows and cello to Frank Callier when the shop was on Sunset Blvd. He sent his students there as well. Craig is an accomplished restorer of instruments as well. And he is an especially honest and fine human being who happens to have a great gift at his trade as a Luthier. He treats all his customers with equal respect and concern for their instrument needs. And his rates are as fair as it gets. Bravo! and Thanks! to Craig Scollard for his wonderful work as a Luthier. Judith Aller www.judithaller.com Beyond what you expect Reply # 10 Monday, 09/27/2021 Sunny I knew this music shop for 4 years but didn't know this website so it's my first review. You can have the best service with the best price. I wonder how it can be done but one thing I'm sure that Craig is a REAL musician! If I have a chance, I want to learn how to fix a violin. Story / Biography Reply # 9 Monday, 08/21/2017 Henry Lara Hello there, I love to write short stories about all the people, history and buildings in Los Angeles. I was passing the other day and peeked through the window in amazement. I thought to myself, what art, what skill. People need to know about this and I should write a story about your place. I am reaching out to see if you are interested. I post all my stories on Instagram under the name: angelenoheart. Thank you for taking the time in reading this message. My best, Henry Always Callier Scollard Reply # 8 Sunday, 08/13/2017 Moses Derian I always bring my violins to Craig. His knowledge and workmanship are beyond amazing. Over the years, he's worked on my 1924 Ansaldo Poggi, my 1925 Enrico Polleti and recently mid 1800's unknown violin. (This violin was saved from a fire.) Also his prices are extremely fair. BEST LUTHIER. Thanks Craig for your expertise and honesty. Sincerely Moses Bow repair Reply # 7 Sunday, 02/14/2016 Jeanne Pistillo Fantastic repair. I dropped my pernambucco bass bow and it split in two. I asked Craig if he could fix it. The answer was yes. I cant even tell it was ever broken. Absolutely fabulous job. I would definitely recommend him and his work. Nice guy and such reasonable prices. He rehaired my other bow and now it plays so much better.. Smoother and sweeter. He rocks. Recommendation Reply # 6 Wednesday, 07/23/2014 E. Keck Craig upholds the acme of quality. His work greatly improved the sound and feel of our modest violin. What a joy to meet a craftsman and artist with integrity and talent. In addition to repairs, he did a wonderful job rehairing the bow. We are very pleased. Collier Violin Reply # 5 Wednesday, 08/22/2012 Keith Keller I have a full size Violin that was made by G.X. Collier, Anoka Minnesota, 1961 #1 Would you have any information on it? EXPERT Reply # 4 Monday, 05/28/2012 Roxanna Cordova Craig cares about maintaining a superior standard of quality and integrity in his business. He is the most extraordinary person I know. Craig has been the only person I have gone to for violin repairs and supplies for the last 35 years. Craig is honest, caring, and considerate. He is saint in the human world and in the business world. You can't say that about a whole lot of people -- artists or businesses. May God always bless him and protect him in all things everywhere, forever. Shop review Reply # 3 Wednesday, 02/29/2012 Tom McEvilley As a musician who has worked in several violin shops as well as visited dozens both in the US and abroad, I give the work of Craig Scollard my highest recommendation. His repair work is expert and painstakingly good, and his fees are very reasonable. In a profession plagued by conflicts of interest, greed and chicanery, Craig's honesty and humble expertise are a rare find. Highly recommend this shop Reply # 2 Saturday, 07/16/2011 Ludina Sallam You will not find a more reasonably priced, down to earth violin shop where the repairs are done by an experienced luthier. I am a cellist who has been around for years and have seen alot of shops but this is the one I always recommend to students and colleagues. My Violin Shop Experience Reply # 1 Thursday, 12/24/2009 MARTIN FLAHERTY Going into your shop was an fantastic experience in itself. Between seeing all those wonderful instruments and while I was waiting watching you with such A notable clientele. Seeing in their eyes, the respect they have for you and your craft. It went from a casual visit to an exciting one. The location is fabulous too. I have never seen such a perfectionist, a person who takes so much pride with even the trivial repairs.
