I've had this HOTAS for quite some time now. At first it was great, but as time
went on it began to slip.Pros:-It feels nice. It's plastic, but its a nice
plastic. The exterior of the device looks and feels durable.-Buttons have decent
tactile feel.-Lots of buttonsCons:-Ghosting issue still an issue.-Squeaks after
some time (Expected).-Inability to return to center after some
use(Expected)-Customer support was not the best.Final Thoughts:Skip this one and
save your money for the Warthog or a Virpil setup.If it didn't have the ghosting
issues, I would give this 3 stars. Fix the ghosting and the calibration
issues..and this is a solid 4 star product.Reasons for remarks:1.) Ghosting.
This product still has ghosting issues. It's a deal breaking flaw for me and
likely will be for you as well. Nothing worse than flying around and your gear
just repeatedly keeps coming down. Or fuel probe extends for no reason. Flaps
when you don't want them. etc, etc.Now, the disappointing thing is this is/was a
known issue. There is plenty of documentation of it on reddit. And the general
consensus is that it has to do with the power and bandwidth of the USB port it
is connected to. So I've tried, USB 2.0, 3.0, powered hub, unpowered, separate
hubs, direct to Motherboard. It's mostly dissapointing because they said it was
resolved, and it's not. At least not for me. I'm in IT, I know how to
troubleshoot USB stuff.I pulled the device apart to have a look. And I found 3
pinched wires as seen in the attached photo. I repaired these wires, but the
ghosting issue persisted.2.) Joystick squeaks. This just started recently (About
1 year of ownership). This is expected to be honest. I've had a lot of joysticks
and most of them start to squeak to be fair. I imagine I could locate and
eliminate the squeak if needed. But it's just something to be aware of. Not a
deal breaker IMO.3.) Inability to return to center. This is somewhat expected.
However the twist grip portion has lost its ability to return to center from a
Clockwise twist. 1 year in and I have to set a 20-24% deadzone for twist. And I
usually average about 7% deadzone for pitch and roll. I understand that springs
weaken over time. But not within a year.4.) Customer service. The thing is still
within warranty. I tried to explain my problems with Customer service. But I
just got some automated email. Now, to be fair, this might be a side effect of
the COVID situation. But, like many of you I've got a ton of stuff to do outside
of gaming. And the inability of the company to make it simple to rectify a
broken product is just unfortunate.Final thoughts:I was a Logitech fanboy. Back
in the MX 502 mouse days they made good solid products. However, I've bought 2
G502 Mice and both have succumb to the double click issue. I have the X56 HOTAS
and it has a myriad of problems. I sincerely hope Logitech gets back on track.
But, I will be unlikely to buy their products gain until I see good track record
for a few years.I have folks who ask me what gear I use on my stream, And I have
to tell them to avoid this product. And they believe me, because low and behold
my gear is popping out every 5 minutes. Or my fuel probe as seen in the attached
video.

Summary: The controls and capability of this unit is unbelievable for the price.
It's a great alternative to the higher tier ones out there at a cost of plastic
(this unit) vs metal.
History: Coming from X52 (which I ordered in 2013 or something long time ago),
X45 (even older) and much older Saitek models (mostly as gaming ports changed
along with new features, none have died on me which speaks to some level of
historical quality).
Usage: DCS, Elite Dangerous, FSX and similar
*First impression*: Extremely scared that I would have had to return item after
10 minutes. The throttle was not calibrated where mid-throttle was registering
as 0% and there was no way to calibrate within windows. Turned out that there is
internal calibrations. See bottom of review for the BKM on fixing this which can
also be found on forums for the older version of the x56 (x55)
Other than the calibrations, the unit feels solid and controls are plentiful.
This is the Logitech version of the failed Saitek model which is plagued with
problems according to most reviews. All buttons/actions responded as expected
and fit is good. The right hand position is a bit lower than desired and not
terribly adjustable like the X52. Small hands be warned!
VR (since it's a market target and selling point): Using this in VR works well
*once* you can get trained where switches are. There's so many options/spots
that sometimes you can get lost on the platform switches on the throttle.
Hunting around to orient was common early on but eventually figured out a
pattern to find the switches quicker. I still get the knobs mixed up every now
and then since they are close together. The buttons/etc on the throttle/stick
are easy enough to find in VR since they are always in hand. The VR selling
point likely is that there are so many options that you don't need the keyboard
for many common things anymore. A debatable selling point depending on the
simulation being used.
*Ergonomics*: some of the buttons are not placed well for long term usage. It's
ok if you just need to hit every minute or so, but not as a 2 minute+ toggling
spree. The hat controls on both controls are placed slightly out of alignment
with my hands so that constant usage starts to hurt the thumb for both hands.
The throttle is a bit better placed but sometimes difficult to move the 2
smaller hats due to tight spaces. The X52 feels much more "natural". This is my
-1 reason for not being 5-stars
Throttle/tension: From my non-scientific observation this uses some type of goo
to dampen the slide action. This goo loosens up rapidly when warmed so that the
throttle starts to slide quite easily. There is a tension knob but it's
difficult to tune correctly due to this dynamics. It does *not* have any
detentes/positions to lock into so I commonly find that resting my hand slowly
decreases the throttle. There are 3d-print options to fix this, but without the
modification you can't leave hand resting on throttle. In DCS I commonly found I
was pulling back and loosing speed so I started to need to do hands-off throttle
which contradicts the HOTAS benefit.
Stick tension: The multiple springs should work with many people. There is a
little play in the center but nothing that concerned me. The pivot is made of
plastic which is concerning over the x52 which is part metal. Concerns about
this breaking is high.
Stick future: It was very curious to see the grip disconnects much like the
higher cost options. May suggest that new grips can either be made or will be
made for different plane likeness.
Desk requirement: The bases are much larger than prior generations, likely to
just provide stability/support but is hollow for the most part. People complain
a lot about this online about "wasted space" but in reality it's providing
torque resistance when on a desk from the push/pull. When on a mount, yes it
likely is problematic and overkill.
Mounting: There are holes in the corners of each unit which can be used for
mounting screws. It's not an under-base connectivity but it's something that
I'll be using in the near future. It's also seemingly non-standard measurements
DCS: Perfect! assignments,likeness, and HOTAS usage works great with this sim.
Overkill for buttons for P51 but excellent for A10. This mimics the warthog from
thrustmaster in capability and general layout but the warthog is very
specifically tuned to the A10. The two extra adjustment knobs on the throttle is
very nice for P51 for trimming which does not exist for the x52. DCS was the
primary reason for purchase so very happy with decision as it meet my
expectations. Combine with foot rudders, I don't really use the twist anymore
but it does feel solid and did work well before foot rudders.
Elite Dangerous: Works well with one exception -- controlling the system bars
gets very difficult due to ergo problems. The hats on the stick are placed just
wrong enough that you can't adjust quickly unlike the X52. Throttle mini hats
are not much better as some directions are difficult to use to or collide with
other buttons. The 2 mini analog sticks are great though for thrust control! I
use the one on throttle, tried the stick but kept hitting that as it's placement
isn't the best for where the thumb naturally rests. There's enough button/switch
control left-overs to make advanced rapid adjustments to "pre-programmed" models
of sys/eng/wep balances.
FSX or other sims: Likely to be overkill for most people.
Recommended? Yes if budget is tight. Are there better things out there? Yes, but
at min 2x price. That price bump gets mechanics that will survive the thrash of
a little child, x56 will likely break under same conditions.
Calibration:
Clear axis calibration process for Throttle:
1.Meanwhile make TGL3 down,TGL2 up(show buttons 14,17) before device power on.
2.Meanwhile make TGL4 down,TGL3 up(show buttons 16,19).
3.Clear calibration is completed when all lights go out.
Axis calibration process for Throttle:
1.Move all axes to max and min twice.
2.Meanwhile make TGL4 down,TGL3 down,TGL2 up(show buttons 14,17,19).
3.Calibration is completed when all lights go out

Ok I bought this as a replacement for my thrust master X. It goes beyond that
system. For the price point it is a well built mid level to beginner hotas. If
you are an avid flight simmer and want realism you will want more. I will review
each section so you can make an informed decision. Buy this for a beginner.
I purchased a WINWING F16, shark collective, take off panel, combat ready panel,
and the bases a week after delivery. I needed realism and functions. You will
too if you want realism and true flight deck functions.
The stick and throttle base ergonomics and feel. 4 out of 5 stars
Pros
Great quality solid, lights work and looks great. The spring functions well.
Perfect for a beginner.
Cons:
Too thick of a base
The buttons are too close together.
The throttle adjustment even with a tensioner is still very stiff making it hard
for constant adjustment when aerial refueling.
The toggle buttons should have been three position not spring to center.
Function on/off function.
Needs more knob sliders for lights.
The mini joysticks were hard to program.
The software. 1 out of 5.
Hardest thing to program effectively. Wanted it too do more. It might be able to
but I didn’t want to spend the time. I want functional programming out of the
box.
For the engineers and developers. Take an F18 and F16 Hotas as a model and stick
to that model. Use those buttons for the stick. Space them for adult human hands
and stay consistent. A realistic Hotas is not undoable for this all the off the
shelf functions are of the same quality.
Throttle. Three position toggles more light controls more toggles across the
top. Mini knobs for radios across the front. All affordable and easy for such a
thick base setup.

Good setup. Needs just a bit of finessing out of the box. Used chapstick to lube
the collar on the joystick. It is butter smooth with just a bit of play on
center. Opened the throttle and moved the grease back into place for a smoother
throttle. The only complaints i have:
- throttle creep still an issue. If you go past about 80% throttle it will move
under its own weight to full throttle. Sometimes it doesnt do it.
-some of the buttons(mainly the joystick hats) do not have a positve engagement
feel to them. They are mushy. Makes setting trim difficult at times.
Really, this should be a bit cheaper. Overall i am happy with my purchase

Ive never had any of the ghosting issues, i have both the throttle and joystick
plugged into usb ports on my pc with 0 issue. The only 2 issues i do have are
that the joystick is sloppy in the very middle, no tension to keep it from
wobbling around. As well as the throttle, when i have it around 50% throttle, it
will slowly slide forward to max throttle over the course of like 30 seconds.
Not super fast, but slow enough that you may not realize it until you hit bingo
fuel haha.

For what you pay I would say find something else. I see sellers selling this for
over 350 Canadian. I got it for under that so don’t get ripped off. Product is
ok while it works. You get ghost inputs and sometimes the calibration just goes
nuts. I had a chat with Amazon tech support which was useless. I managed to fix
my calibration problems only to have other ones. All I all it’s not so great.
Update August 2020: Now I have really bad ghost inputs. They just keep getting
worse and worse I would stay away from Logitech.
Final Uodate: Logitech still has not responded to any emails, trouble tickets or
twitter. The call Centre never picks up and just disconnects. Amazon was kind
enough to offer a full refund for the defective item or what Logitech calls a
project in other words.
Please look at another manufacturer for good gear. Not from Logitech.

This stick and throttle combo is perfect for the MSFS 2020... Lots of
programmable buttons and mini-joysticks. The X56 itself is recognized by MSFS
2020 and both joystick and throttle along with many of the buttons and one
mini-joystick are already pre-mapped automatically.
It comes with two spare tension springs which you can use to replace the default
one on the joystick. I decided to replace the default with the shorter spring so
there is less tension needed to move the stick around. You can search youtube to
get a better idea how to do this as it is not really clear on the supplied
manual.
In addition to the FOV button, the thumb mini-joystick on the joystick are
already pre-programmed to allow you to smoothly scroll your view 360 degrees
around the cockpit and windows. I also mapped other functions to the available
buttons, such as one button on the throttle to act as the thrust reverse toggle
so I can use the throttle as a thrust reverser during landing when togged to
this mode. I also remapped some of the keys and this is easily done inside MSFS
2020 itself.
The software it comes with is also very useful. For example, I used it to adjust
the curves to make the rudder more responsive when I twist it since I find it
slightly hard to twist. Now I need to twist it less to get better response.
I have had no issues such as ghost button presses, etc., that I have read people
complaining online about. I have the throttle plugged directly to a USB 3.0 port
on the back of my PC and the stick plugged to the powered USB 3.0 hub on my main
monitor.
Overall, this is a great complement to MSFS 2020.

The stick shipped only as a label slapped in the actual items packaging so
everyone knows exactly what's being delivered. You would think something this
expensive would ship inside an additional cardboard box to protect the
electronics.
For the stick and throttle themselves,
-The plastic feels cheap (the matt look and feel isn't fooling me)
-The sticks LEDs don't match with the LEDs on the throttle as far a color goes
so the shade will be a bit lighter on the throttle.
-The yaw on the flight stick is squeaky when turning slowly
-the throttle is VERY stiff even on the loosest setting. people say you have to
pump it on the looser setting to actually loosen it and that works after 4 or 5
pumps but literally 1 second after you stop pumping, it goes back to being stiff
so that's not a fix.
-With the throttle at about 50%, TGL 1 is quite literally a half inch below the
lowest directional stick, making it hard to hit TGL1, and easy to accidentally
nudge the directional in the process. if the base wasn't so thick, there would
be more room.
the small analog sticks have far too much sensitivity and the software is too
hard to navigate to change this.
-the size of the base is big enough that I haven't had to mount it to stop the
stick from tipping much BUT it would be nice if there were screw holes in say
the spot for a vesa mount or something. Now I have to find a DIY solution with
velcro or something.
-Software is confusing and hard to use and doesn't seem to have any visible
option to reset to defaults if you make a mistake.
I get that there's a lot of components inside but the bases are WAY too thick
for comfortable play on a desk top even with my big hands. unless your desk
surface is around 2-3 inchs below the top of your armrests, you'll be scouring
youtube for diy mounting solutions
All in all, i'd pay like $2-250 for this

This is for the used version being sold.
First off it is still useable. It work well enough and is a definite improvement
over cheap setups. There are lots of buttons. Weird joysticks instead of hat
switches and round knobs instead of sliders. The one slider on the throttle does
even act as a slider! You have to use the supplied software to get these items
working. The tactile feedback that raw switches have has been replaced by a
gimmick.
Used problems: There is a large dead zone on the stick and several knobs. You
can set dead zones to help with this but it does make the product feel less than
premium.
Buttons are not solid. They feel either well used or cheap. Having used the
thrustmaster HOTAS I am surprised at the price LG has on this thing. Even used I
don't feel I got my money's worth. This thing is maybe 250$ new and 100 used.
There isn't a lot of competition in this realm. If you're in the market go with
one of then 100$ options or save a bit more and get the Thrustmaster new.

Poor quality and control. The joystick had a deffective POV hat switch out of
the box which was loose and did not work in the down or up positions. The
throttle was extremely stiff on the lightest friction setting and numerous
rotary knobs and buttons were loose and wobbly.
Bought the TM Warthog HOTAS (double the money) and what a difference. More than
double the quality for sure, should have not tried to save money in the first
place.
Definately not worth the $400 price tag.
