Just Dance, the game, was brought to life for audiences by an all-star creative
team

‘Preternaturally Calm’

I like to pride myself on my calm nature, especially when calling shows.

We don’t do these jobs for compliments, but sometimes it is nice to hear
someone’s opinion of you and your work.

Recently I did a job where the end-client was a government regulator and the
Chair sent a message of thanks following the fortnight of events.
In the email, the Chair specifically mentioned that I was “preternaturally
calm”.



Now, the irony is that the time I’ve been least calm lately is when writing this
post!

I think we all find it a little hard to big ourselves up to the rest of the
world, but sometimes you just have to do it.

Here’s to a calm week ahead.

WOMADELAIDE 2010

WOMADelaide is possibly the most beautiful festival that I have attended or
worked at.

Held on the traditional lands of the Kaurna People of the Adelaide plains,
WOMADelaide is set in Adelaide’s stunning Botanic Park / Tainmuntilla.

Ravi and Anoushka Shankar came together to headline the mainstage.

Over on the Zoo Stage where I was Stage Manager, we had acts such as:

Working Abroad

I know I’m very fortunate to get to work abroad.

Since June 2021 I’ve been lucky enough to work in :
Sardinia
Dubai
Riyadh

I will never take for granted the opportunity to travel to places I might never
have been to without these work opportunities.

Following the last couple of years, I hope that many more avenues for working
abroad open up for us all

Music Festivals

My work background is very varied and I’m fortunate to have worked on so many
different types of events and performances.

But I love working at music festivals.

I love festoon
I love flags
I love happy people

These are all things you can find at a good music festival.

As Stage Manager for a festival stage, your key roles are timekeeping and
communication.

You never want a stage to run behind during a festival as it can have knock-on
complications for performers and other stages throughout the festival, not to
mention for audience members who plan their festival schedules down to the
minute.

Working Holiday Visa

I travelled to Australia in 2010 on a Working Holiday Visa.
I would recommend this route for anyone (eligible) looking to travel Aus and
make some money whilst they’re there.

You need to be aged 18-30 (or up to 35, if you’re from certain countries).

I was lucky enough to work on three different festivals whilst I was in
Australia:
Adelaide Festival
Womadelaide
Melbourne Comedy Festival

But I also took time to travel, to meet up with friends and family and I made
many new friends in the process.

10/10 would recommend.
