ELLIBELLE'S CORNER ~Handmade Greeting Cards, a Monthly Craft Challenge and an Occasional Fashion Over Forty Post~ PAGES * Home * Ellibelle's Crafty Wednesday Challenge * Fashion & Lifestyle * Design Teams * *Themed* Card Challenges * Affiliate & Privacy Info * About Me JUN 4, 2022 LIFE'S BETTER WITH SANDY FEET (AND HOW I MADE A SEASIDE SCENE WITH 4 EASY STEPS) Hello and welcome! There is a new challenge starting today at Allsorts, our theme this time was chosen by Lorraine - Sun, Sea and/or Sand or Anything Goes. We would love for you to join in! As always we have a fabulous prize, this time there will be one winner who will receive a gorgeous summer themed stamps set and a stencil. Remember you may join in up to 3 times with a new creation for more chances to win! And here is what I came up with: I used some older stamps and products from my stash and created a seaside scene. I really need to create seaside cards more often because each time I do, I struggle with how to start!! So this took me a couple of tries but I finally managed and looking back it wasn't actually that hard. I'm writing down how I did this, so maybe next time I'll remember to check back here as I am sure I will once again forget!!! 1. I started out with a piece of torn printer paper which I placed on the top portion of the card as a mask, then started inking the sand from the bottom of the card upwards. I used Pumice Stone Distress Oxide ink. 2. Next I added the other part of the torn paper over what I had just inked and removed the top part, and I used painter's tape where I wanted the horizon to be so there would be a (hopefully) straight crips line. I used Peacock Feathers Distress ink and Hero Arts Sea Glass ink for the water. (This ink was part of a Monthly stamp kit and I am not sure if it's still available, but this ink lot would be a good alternative or use any similar inks you have.) 3. When this was done I moved the masking tape down a bit and inked up the sky. I used Peacock Feathers, Blueprint Sketch and Faded Jeans Distress inks on the sky but I'm sure any blues will do here too. 4. I always like using one of Stampin Up's Itty Bitty Background stamp on the sand, but the sandy texture can also be achieved by using a fine tipped marker or pencil in a similar color. I have the Hero Arts Layering Waves stamp set so I used one of the waves stamps to create some waves. The sentiment I stamped in the sand is also part of this stamp set. The birds, beach ball and starfish are part of the Hero Arts stamp set Layering Sea and Sky, stamped with Versafine Onyx ink. I'm sure many of you recognize the cute Penny Black hedgie - Lazy Days. He's been stamped on Bristol Vellum, colored with Zig Clean Color markers and some Distress inks, then fussy cut. The anchor die is an oldie I have from my Design Team days at Whimsy Stamps (similar options), thought it would make a nice addition and I tied some natural Jute Twine onto it. Oh, and the frame was done using the Faux Shiplap technique. I've shared in this post how that is done. Then I used the smaller die from this die set to cut out the frame. You have all week to join us and below is the prize. The linky tool can be found on the Allsorts challenge blog. Thanks so much for visiting! I'm sharing my card here: The Card Concept - Red White and Blue (part of the challenge is to define a style, from all those listed I'd probably say Mixed Media as I used ink, markers, fibers and papers and it doesn't really fit into any of the other categories) Penny Black Saturday - AG // Krafty Chicks -Stamp Act // Crafty Gals Corner - Buttons or Bows // Fab n Funky - No Square // Simon Says Stamp - Little Critters // The Paper Funday - Male // Cardz 4 Guyz - On the Water // Double Trouble Challenges - Anything // Path of Positivity - Something Positive // Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge - It's Up in the Air (birds) // Use Your Stuff - AG These are Always Anything Goes: Taylor Made Cards 4 U // 613 Avenue Create opt. twist watercolor // Creative Moments // Through The Craft Room Door // The Corrosive Challenges // A Bit More Time to Craft // A Perfect Time To Craft // Classic Design Challenge * // Crafts Galore Encore // DL.Art Linky Challenge // Love to Craft // QKR Stampede // The Creative Crafters // World Wide Open Design Team Challenge // Lil Patch of Crafty Friends // Link Parties: Dare to Share // Sunday Showcase - First Sunday with Ada and Mireille // Inspire Me Monday // Link Up Potpourri // Random-osity Good, Random, Fun // You're The Star Blog Hop Link Party @Stonecottage Adventures // Anything Goes with Your Hosts @ My Random Musings // Jenerally Informed The Happy Now // Spread the Kindness Linkup @ Shelbee on the Edge // Thursday Favorite Things // Little Things Thursday // Encouraging Heart and Home @ Slices of Life // Posted by Ellibelle at 2:00 AM 13 comments: Email ThisBlogThis!Share to TwitterShare to FacebookShare to Pinterest Labels: allsorts, Penny Black JUN 2, 2022 MAY CARD CHAIN CHALLENGE REVEAL Hello and welcome! Last month I played along again at the Card Chain Challenge (a world wide card exchange) and today is reveal day. I signed up right after Brenda from UK and she was my recipient. Happy that she liked the card and that it arrived in plenty of time :) As always, there are several challenge options to choose from, a sketch, colors and several themes / techniques. This time I decided on using the sketch. Thought Brenda might like a butterfly themed card so chose the large butterfly from the Penny Black stamp set Butterfly Garden as my focal point. I started out by using Altenew's Classy Stripes stencil on the background with Twisted Citron and Bundled Sage Distress inks. Then I added the die cut frames and negatives (Penny Black Frames die set) which I die cut using white card stock then inked with Walnut Stain (frames), Twisted Citron (negative) and Mustard Seed (flowers). The butterfly was stamped on a separate piece of card stock, colored and fussy cut before adding to the card. The sentiment is from the Penny Black set Snippets. It is a different type of a challenge where everyone send a physical card as well as receives one, lots of fun and you can find all the info on the blog. That said, I feel like I need to take a break from it over the summer months, but we will see... This is the pretty card I received from Joanne from California. Such cute cats!! They surely remind me of my own two furry critters. I just love it! Time seems to be running away from me faster than I thought I honestly I thought I had another week to prepare this post. But here we are, it's the first Wednesday of the month and time for a new Crafty Wednesday Challenge right there on my blog! Thank you all so much for joining in last month, there were many fabulous creations so be sure to scroll down to see who made my top picks. There is also a change in how I select the top picks and the way I run Ellibelle's Crafty Wednesday challenge and you can read about it further down in the post. Starting today and going forward the challenge themes will simply be............. Anything Goes. This is open to any type of crafty makes - as long as it is handmade by you, you may link it up! I can't wait to see what you will share this month! The linky tool is at the end of the post. And here is my creation, a last minute make I whipped up this morning when I realized I had nothing!! Not really 100% happy with the turnout but when it has to be done quickly, there just isn't a lot of time to dwell over card design etc, so in my mind I was just thinking "what's the quickest background to create, not much coloring, etc." So this is what it turned out to be. The fussy cutting took the longest but I'm used to it and it was just a few blooms. I created my background by inking up an acrylic block with Twisted Lime Distress Oxide ink and Tumbled Glass Distress Oxide ink, spritzed with water and then created a print with this on Bristol Vellum paper. The stamp is Penny Black's Demure, one I've had for some years but not used in a while. Thought paper piecing was quicker than coloring, so I stamped the blossoms on some polka dotted paper then fussy cut. I stamped again on my card front then adhered the fussy cut blossoms. Related Products You May Like: shop now I thought the background needed something else so I used my trusty script border stamp (Whimsy Stamps - retired) randomly on the bottom portion. The sentiment is a metallic sticker from Tim Holtz's Idea-ology sticker book. I also decided to use a white Sakura gel pen on the little circles on the "branches" but hard to see. It's Saturday again and that means it's time for a new challenge at the Allsorts challenge blog.I'm also sharing a few photos I took at the Japanese Garden I recently got a chance to visit. At Allsorts it's Mervi's turn to host this time around and she chose "Anything But Birthdays". We have 2 prizes this week - a Paper Boutique 8x8 Sunflowers paper pad and a Tattered Lace Cut & Emboss plate. Hope you will join in for your chance to win! You have one week to link up with us, but do remember it has to be a new creation so the post can't be dated before the challenge start date. When I was working on this card I was thinking our theme was any celebration but birthday, so in order to make a celebratory card I decided on a wedding card even though I don't need it. I really should make some use of the planner I purchased!!! It always works out so beautifully in the beginning, but as time goes on I get lazy and don't fill in my planner, instead I think I remember what the upcoming themes are. At least it worked out perfectly this time as it does fit the actual theme of "Anything but Birthdays". So here is the wedding card I made in a monochromatic way. I started out by trying to create a moonlit sky using Stormy Sky and Chipped Sapphire Distress ink with a circle die cut as a mask for the moon. I also used my white Posca pen to flick some "stars" onto the background. The silhouette couple is a rubber stamp I won a few years ago, I think it was through Lost Coast Designs but I could be totally wrong. If anyone recognizes the stamp please do let me know. It didn't come in a package. Related Wedding Themed Products You May Like: shop now Using a stamp platform, I stamped with Versamark ink and heat embossed with black embossing powder. The willow I stamped along the top is from Lavinia stamps. The sentiment is a real oldie from Whimsy Stamps and was part of a wedding themed set but no longer available. It was also heat embossed. I framed the image panel with SU Night of Navy paper and then mounted onto a white card base. To finish it off I decided to add a few sticky rhinestones. I'm sharing with these challenges: Krafty Chicks - All Occasions // TIME OUT Challenges - Quote Prompt below (I made a moonlit sky) // Double D Challenges - Monochromatic // Fab n Funky - Anything But Square // Paper Shelter - Add Embellishments (I added rhinestones) // Simon Says Stamp - AG // The Paper Funday - AG // Unicorn Challenge - Bling // Crafting Happiness Challenges - AG // Pammie's Inky Pinkies Challenges - AG // Path of Positivity - AG // These are Always Anything Goes: Taylor Made Cards 4 U // 613 Avenue Create opt. twist watercolor // Creative Moments // Through The Craft Room Door // The Corrosive Challenges // A Bit More Time to Craft // A Perfect Time To Craft // Classic Design Challenge * // Crafts Galore Encore // DL.Art Linky Challenge // Love to Craft // QKR Stampede // The Creative Crafters // World Wide Open Design Team Challenge // Lil Patch of Crafty Friends // THIS POST MAY INCLUDE SOME AFFILIATE LINKS, MEANING I MAY EARN A SMALL COMMISSION IF YOU PURCHASE SOMETHING THROUGH THE LINKS. AS ALWAYS, THIS IS AT NO COST TO YOU. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SUPPORTING THIS BLOG! As mentioned, here are a few photos from our visit to the Japanese Garden. We live less than 3 hours away but somehow never managed to visit. So glad we finally did as it is absolutely beautiful and tranquil. Don't you just love Weeping Willow trees? Lots of fish in the lakes and as you can see the wind blew in some blossoms. One of the gorgeous waterfalls. And here is a photo with the two of us in front of a beautiful pink dogwood tree. I had planned on wearing a pretty sleeveless blouse (as I like to dress up a bit when visiting Botanical Gardens) but it was way too chilly so instead I dressed more casually with this periwinkle colored fleece jacket I've had for a few years and my comfy Taos slip on sneakers. If you live close enough or have some time to spend in the Rockford, Illinois area, I highly recommend this garden (it's on place no. 4 of all US Japanese Gardens according to USCityTraveler.com), although sadly I don't recommend the on-site restaurant because my food arrived burnt and our waiter only checked on us when it was about time to leave. This week we are having a special challenge at Allsorts as we are celebrating 13 years of Allsorts challenges. There are many prizes to be won this week and all you have to do is join in following our "Anything for a Birthday" theme and of course following our simple rules to be entered into the drawing. You can find the linky tool to link up your card at the Allsorts challenge blog. And as always you may enter up to 3 different posts featuring a new creation for more chances to win. Here is a peek at our prizes: 1. A bundle of Sizzix and Paper Boutique coordinating Card, Design Papers and Scrapbook kit 2. 13 prizes of stamps 3. A choice of 3 digis from Ruth Hamilton Designs for a total of 15 prizes for 15 lucky winners!!! And here is what I made: It's been a few weeks since I made a "cute" card so this cute hedgie came out to play. He is part of the Penny Black set Smile All Day. Stamped with Versafine Onyx ink and colored with Zig Clean Color markers. I fussy cut the image to use on this sketch and paper pieced the present. The hill was done using the "negative" of a hill die cut as a mask (similar option of a hill die), inked with Twisted Citron and Rustic Wilderness ink then I used my Circle Explosion stencil to add dots onto the hill. The sentiment is from Penny Black's set Sprinkles and Smiles, the butterfly is from my newest Penny Black die set Soaring and I used Penny Black's Diamond Border die on the bottom portion. Had this die for several years but I think I only used once before. I really want to get in the habit of using dies more often!! Related Products: shop now After inking the butterfly I used my a script stamp (Whimsy Stamps - retired) to add words to the butterfly for a little extra detail. I used a clear Wink of Stella glitter brush on the butterflies, ribbon and paper pieced present, but unfortunately the camera didn't capture all the sparkle. My Wonky Stitches frame die added some faux stitching along the edges before adhering to the blue card base. A few sticky rhinestones finish off the card. A new theme starts today at Allsorts challenge and as always we'd love for you to join us! It's Pauline's turn to host and she picked the theme of "Add Some Sparkle". Should be easy for everyone as I am sure everyone has glitter or some other form or sparkle in their craft room so come join in the fun for your chance to win! This week we have a fabulous prize from WOWVOW, a £15 store voucher, and we're also having a second prize of 2 Paper Discovery stencils. Oh, and before I forget to mention it...next week we are celebrating Allsorts' 13th Birthday with lots of wonderful prizes. Mark your calendars! And here is my card with some sparkle. The beautiful image is part of Penny Black's stamp Flower Perch. Stamped on Canson Montval watercolor paper using Versafine Onyx ink and colored with Zig Clean Color brush pens and a Zig Detailer watercolor brush. I fussy cut part of the image I wanted to use. The background was done with a Faux Shiplap technique. It's a super simple technique and I have made a couple of cards with this before, I copied and pasted the instructions I shared in my first faux shiplap post for those of you interested. And if you scroll down you can see snippets of the two other faux shiplap cards I made previously. HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN SHIPLAP PAPER: * Score a piece of white card stock 3/4 inches apart using a scoring tool. You need to have good impressions so be sure to use some pressure when scoring. * Next I used Pumice Stone Distress Oxide (Weathered Wood Distress ink used on this card) and swiped (wiped?) over the raised area. You will also transfer some ink next to the scoring lines but that's ok and this will just add to the look of shiplap paper (faux wood). When my shiplap paper was finished, I adhered the image along with a die cut branch from the Penny Black die set Blustery. Related Products You May Like: shop now This beautiful sentiment stamp is a real oldie from Stampin Up, but I separated most of my sentiments from the rest of the sets so unfortunately I can't tell you what set it's from. It might have been beach/seashells themed but I could be totally wrong. >>>>>>Scrapbook.com - click for current sale/Ad As the Allsorts theme was pretty open, I looked at some other challenges to see what inspires me and found Double D's current challenge of "Birds, Birdhouses, Birdcages, Birds nests".
