How to Eat Healthfully When Traveling
Eating healthfully can be challenging even when you are at home. However, it is
much harder when you travel. Your regular foods are not always available. Even
if they are, it is hard to do any cooking. But there are things you can do to
make it easier to eat healthfully when you travel. Here are some of them:

Research restaurants before you go.
You can only eat healthfully if you have healthy foods available. So, it helps
to know which restaurants in the area have healthy menu choices. With that in
mind, here are some types of restaurants that have healthy menu choices:

Japanese
Mexican
Greek
Thai
Vietnamese
Spanish

A restaurant doesn't need to fit into any category to have healthy choices.
Also, not every meal on the menu needs to be healthy. It just needs to have at
least one healthy choice.

Pack healthy foods.
It helps to have healthy foods available at all times, even when you travel. So,
you should bring healthy foods with you if possible. That way, you can have
healthy foods when no restaurants are open. Also, it is easier to be selective
when you have healthy foods available.

Have a healthy snack before going to the restaurant.
It often takes time to find a suitable restaurant and to go there. After you
finally get seated, it takes time to order your food and for them to prepare it.

If you are extremely hungry, it will be hard to resist whatever greasy appetizer
they offer you. This is why it helps to have a healthy snack before you go to
the restaurant. That way, you won't be as hungry before your meal arrives. Then
you can resist the greasy appetizer and be more selective about what you eat.

Be selective at the restaurant.
Just because a restaurant has healthy meals does not mean all the meals are
healthy. This is the case even when the restaurant is touted as a health food
restaurant. For example, a greasy pizza made with organic ingredients is still a
greasy pizza. So you have to be selective of what you eat wherever you eat.

You don't have to eat everything on your plate. It's okay to pick around some
foods and many times you should. Also, you don't need to save room for dessert.

Have your dressings and sauces on the side if possible.
Rich dressings and creamy sauces can add a lot of empty calories to your food.
So, you should avoid eating too much of them. But this is hard if they are
covering your food. So, it helps to have sauces and dressings on the side if
possible. This gives you more control over how much of them you eat.

Research grocery stores before you go.
Sometimes it is difficult or impossible to pack all the healthy foods for a
trip. This is often the case for long trips or overseas trips. So, it helps to
know about the grocery stores in the places you visit. This will allow you an
unlimited supply of the foods you need.

Eating healthfully while you travel can be difficult, but if you plan and
prepare, it can be easier.
