WHAT IS FILMOCRACY?

Filmocracy is a new kind of streaming platform that prioritizes quality ratings
over everything else. Nobody eats at a restaurant or shops online without first
checking the reviews. Why should streaming be any different? So we’ve created a
gamified rewards system to incentivize users to rate films accurately and
simply.

HOW DID YOU THINK OF THE IDEA?

We’ve all been there. Scrolling endlessly through movies and shows for 30
minutes while our food gets cold. Too lazy to google “What’s good on Netflix”
but also terrified of wasting 20 minutes watching something new only to realize
it’s not good. Shouldn’t we know how good something is before we spend 2 hours
watching it? There had to be a better way.

WHY ARE YOU DIFFERENT?

Marketing films is expensive. If you don’t have a famous actor or a large
marketing budget, it’s extremely difficult to get anyone to notice your film. We
believe that by relying on our users to generate accurate ratings, we can bypass
the need for marketing and have the film’s quality speak for itself.

WHY DOES IT MATTER?

Because independent films matter. Thousands of amazing films are produced every
year that never get released because of marketing costs or lack of A-level
talent. Iconic films like Bladerunner and Memento were almost never made because
producing films is incredibly difficult. It’s so important that we do whatever
we can to protect the spirit of filmmaking and find a way to keep making the
films that shape our lives.

WHO SHOULD SUBSCRIBE?

Anyone who cares about quality films. We can watch Marvel movies any day of the
week because we’re fans but real human stories are filmed by independent
filmmakers. Supporting Filmocracy is saving independent film from losing its
spirit and ensuring its future.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

You watch a movie and then at the end you’re asked to rate it on a few different
categories like plot, dialogue, and characters. We compare your score with the
average and depending on how accurate you are, we give you rewards. 10% of all
revenue is divided amongst users and 50% of all revenue goes to the filmmakers
directly. Filmocracy will keep 40% to maintain servers and operations.

WHY DO YOU COMPARE RATINGS TO THE AVERAGE?

There is a huge problem of fake ratings on the internet (see www.fakespot.com).
Trolls, spammers, and bots manipulate ratings on sites like Yelp, Google, and
Amazon. We use the average as a rating criteria to determine how authentic a
user’s rating submission is. At the end of the day, our goal is to collect the
most relevant and widely applicable ratings for everyone to discover their next
favorite film.

WHAT ARE YOUR PRINCIPLES AND VALUES?

Maintaining our integrity and helping filmmakers are the two most important
things to us. While working as film executives, producers, and filmmakers we
watched so many amazing films that were turned down because there was no path to
distribution. So we wracked our brains trying to figure out, how could we help?
And Filmocracy is the answer we came up with.

WHAT ARE THE FUTURE PLANS?

Creating the platform and polishing the rating and rewards system are just the
first step. After that we plan on implementing an equity crowdfunding model,
similar to Kickstarter and Indiegogo except instead of just making a donation,
users will be able to invest in film projects they believe in while sharing in
their financial success.
