Through the lens of a camera and the power of education, Mathare’s youth are rewriting their stories and shaping a healthier, brighter future. WHY SRHR MATTERS IN MATHARE VALLEY. MATHARE VALLEY FACES SIGNIFICANT SRHR CHALLENGES, INCLUDING: HIGH TEENAGE PREGNANCY RATES Lack of access to contraception and SRHR education contributes to high rates of early pregnancies. LIMITED HEALTHCARE SERVICES Many young people cannot afford or access reproductive health services. STIGMA AND MISINFORMATION Cultural taboos often prevent open discussions about sexual health. INTEGRATING SRHR IN CREATIVE PROGRAMS Storytelling Through Film The foundation encourages young filmmakers to create short films that address SRHR topics such as consent, contraception, menstrual hygiene, and gender equality. These films serve as powerful tools to spark conversations and raise awareness in Mathare and beyond. Photography Projects Photography workshops often include themes related to SRHR. For example, participants document the impact of early motherhood, access to healthcare, or community efforts to break taboos around sexual health. Workshops and Discussions Alongside creative training, the foundation organizes SRHR workshops, inviting healthcare professionals and advocates to educate participants. These sessions focus on practical topics like safe sex, reproductive rights, and access to local health services.
