East Winch Airfield was established circa 1986 by brothers Colin & Peter Burman
who with their passion for aircraft wanted to establish a local hub for
aviation. The airfield was originally used as a base from which crop-dusting
operations were carried out. However, in 2009 the European Union prohibited
aerial spraying of pesticides with a few highly restricted exceptions in article
9 of Directive 2009/128/EC of the European Parliament. This lead to Scanrho
Aviation becoming a maintenance facility.

Scanrho Aviation was established at East Winch Airfield on the 8th Jan 1990 by
Vincent Hayward & Guy Appelbeck. In 1993 Vincent left and Guy ran Scanrho
Aviation until May 2017 when the current owner, Rob Stephens, took over.

Rob and his team were featured on the TV “Warbirds Workshop” series, episode 5,
Piper Cub, where their expertise was used to restore a Cub to its former glory
in time for the D day celebrations.

Whilst you are at East Winch if you would like some refreshments or a sandwich
you can pop across the road to the post office which is about 100 yards up
Ashwicken Road, PE32 1LJ.



The nearest pub is the Carpenters Arms on the A47

It is Approximately a 15min walk, turn left out of the airfield driveway and
take the next left in about 1/4 of a mile. The pub is on the right as you get to
the A47. They do a really good selection of meals at Lunch time as well as in
the evenings.





The nearest petrol station is the Whitehouse Service Station (Gulf) in Gayton, 2
miles away.
