READ MORE INTERNET EXPLORER MODE FAQ Expand All | Collapse All -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What does “retiring Internet Explorer 11” mean? When should I start transitioning from IE11 and to Microsoft Edge with IE mode? Microsoft Edge with Internet Explorer mode will officially replace the Internet Explorer 11 desktop application starting next year. On June 15, 2022, the Internet Explorer 11 desktop application will be retired, meaning it will go out of support. Afterwards, the Internet Explorer 11 desktop application will be disabled on specific versions of Windows 10. Internet Explorer mode will continue to be supported in Microsoft Edge so that you can continue to access your legacy, Internet-Explorer based sites and apps. We highly recommend you start transitioning to Microsoft Edge with IE mode as soon as possible to avoid potential business impact. Site discovery, deployment, and testing can take multiple months. Take your first steps using the Getting Started guide. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What operating systems are impacted? This retirement impacts the Internet Explorer 11 desktop application delivered via the semi-annual channel (SAC) for Windows 10 client SKUs (version 20H2 and later) and Windows 10 IoT (version 20H2 and later). Windows 10 LTSC, Windows 10 Server, Windows 7, and Windows 8.1 are excluded. For a full list, please see our full FAQ. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How long will Internet Explorer mode be supported as a feature of Microsoft Edge? IE mode support follows the lifecycle of Windows client, Server, and IoT releases at least through 2029. Additionally, Microsoft will give one year of notice before retiring the IE mode experience when the time comes. For more information, please see our FAQ. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What if I need help setting up Microsoft Edge and/or Internet Explorer mode? We offer a variety of support options. If you have Microsoft Unified Support, you can reach out to that support service for help with the transition. There’s also FastTrack, which is available at no additional charge to customers with 150 or more paid seats of Windows 10. We also recommended looking at our Getting Started guide. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How compatible is Microsoft Edge with Internet Explorer mode? Microsoft Edge is built on the Chromium open-source project to provide world-class compatibility for modern sites and apps. Internet Explorer mode provides compatibility for your legacy sites and apps by supporting Internet Explorer functionality like all document and enterprise modes, Active X controls (such as Java or Silverlight), and more. We also offer the App Assure program in case a compatibility issue does arise when moving from Internet Explorer to Microsoft Edge. The App Assure promise is this: if your web apps and sites work on Internet Explorer 11, supported versions of Google Chrome, or any version of Microsoft Edge (including Microsoft Edge Legacy), those web apps and sites should work on Microsoft Edge. If an issue arises, you can either request assistance or email us (ACHELP@microsoft.com) for remediation support at no additional cost. You can also read more about App Assure and Microsoft Edge in this blog. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Can I store my Enterprise Site List in the cloud? The new Cloud Site List Management experience is now available in public preview, with general availability following. For more information, please see our Docs page. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I heard that I can disable Internet Explorer 11 on my users’ devices to help transition them to Microsoft Edge before Internet Explorer 11 is retired. Is this true? Yes! We recommend that you disable the Internet Explorer 11 desktop application prior to its retirement on June 15, 2022 as part of your change management process to help users move to Microsoft Edge. Enabling the “Disable Internet Explorer 11 as a standalone browser” policy will redirect users to Microsoft Edge if they try to access Internet Explorer 11. For more details, please see this documentation. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Are there adoption materials available to help me move my organization to Microsoft Edge? Yes! You can download them directly here or access them through our Getting Started guide. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Is there a longer FAQ where my more technical questions might be answered? Absolutely! Please see this page for a more detailed FAQ about this announcement. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 The Total Economic Impact™ of Microsoft Edge, a commissioned study conducted by Forrester Consulting, April 2021 Follow this page * * * What's new * Surface Pro 8 * Surface Laptop Studio * Surface Pro X * Surface Go 3 * Surface Duo 2 * Surface Pro 7+ * Windows 11 apps * HoloLens 2 Microsoft Store * Account profile * Download Center * Microsoft Store support * Returns * Order tracking * Virtual workshops and training * Microsoft Store Promise * Flexible Payments Education * Microsoft in education * Devices for education * Microsoft Teams for Education * Microsoft 365 Education * Education consultation appointment * Educator training and development * Deals for students and parents * Azure for students Business * Microsoft Cloud * Microsoft Security * Dynamics 365 * Microsoft 365 * Microsoft Power Platform * Microsoft Teams * Microsoft Industry * Small Business Developer & IT * Azure * Developer Center * Documentation * Microsoft Learn * Microsoft Tech Community * Azure Marketplace * AppSource * Visual Studio Company * Careers * About Microsoft * Company news * Privacy at Microsoft * Investors * Diversity and inclusion * Accessibility * Sustainability English (United States) * Sitemap * Contact Microsoft * Privacy * Manage cookies * Terms of use * Trademarks * Safety & eco * About our ads * © Microsoft 2022 Back to top
