Some common symptoms of depression include: ✓Feeling “empty” ✓Lack of energy ✓Difficulty in concentrating ✓Difficulty in sleeping or sleeping more than normal ✓Changes in appetite or weight ✓Feelings of hopelessness ✓Loss of interest in hobbies or activities, etc. If you know that you're currently feeling any of the above mentioned symptoms, then you should keep on reading to know how you can help yourself out of this feeling. 1. Talk to someone: One way to get out of feeling depressed is by talking to someone. This can be someone you trust, a family or a friend. Whoever it is that you know will encourage you and give you positive affirmations is the kind of person to talk to when you are feeling depressed, not someone who will condemn you or say negative words to you. How do you know who will encourage you? Another reminder to Invest in your relationships. You must learn to invest good in your relationships with others, this way you create a healthy and lasting relationship with them and this will open you to having a good and positive circle. 2. Do something you enjoy: Depression can easily make you stop doing the things you love doing. When you see that you don't do the things you love any longer, you need to push back and do it. Don't give into your fatigue. Do something pleasurable and meaningful, it could be playing an instrument, listening to music, drawing, strolling, face timing a friend, writing, etc. This way, you can boost your energy which can further motivate you to continue to engage in activities that can help in navigating depression symptoms. 3. Incorporate meditation: Stress and anxiety can also add to your depression. Finding relaxation techniques can help you lower stress and invite more peace and balance into your daily life. Incorporating meditation to your daily routine will improve your sense of wellbeing and you feel more connected to what's happening around you. Some things you can do when it comes to meditation/ mindfulness are: ✓ Journaling ✓ Deep breathing ✓ Yoga, etc. 4. Get more exercise: Exercise can decrease the symptoms of anxiety, stress and depression. Give more time to exercise and trust me, this will help you tremendously. It doesn't have to be an exercise that will get you all sweaty and your heart pumping. You can try simple things like: ✓ Walking for about 30 mins daily ✓ Gardening ✓ Cleaning the house ✓ Jogging ✓ Washing your car, etc. Give at least 30 mins daily to exercise, this will regulate your mood and improve your overall health. 5. Set attainable goals: Sometimes, the reason why some people fall into depression is because they haven't attained that goal they set for themselves. As much as you want to be a goal getter, it's necessary to be realistic with your goals. Set goals that are achievable and attainable. Don't put yourself under unnecessary pressure. Take it little by little, step by step, and this way, you will have a list of tangible achievements and not an untouched to-do list.
