UK woman surprised after shop-bought eggs hatch leaving her with THREE ducks
<p>A mum is smitten after three eggs she bought from Morrisons hatched - and now
she has pet ducklings.<br></p><p>Deza Empson, 31, bought six Braddock-White
Clarence Court eggs at the supermarket and on a whim put them in an incubator
she bought on Amazon to breed budgies.</p><p>She was shocked when just five days
later she shone a light and could see little ducklings developing inside some of
the eggs.</p><p>The little chicks began pecking their way out of their shells
three weeks later - with River and Dusk arriving first, followed by Daisy a day
later.</p><p>The trio love nothing more than a splash in the bath, and Daisy has
grown so attached to Deza she follows her around, snuggling on her
shoulder.</p><p>She plans to keep Daisy, but River and Dusk will go to live with
her cousin.</p><p>Mum-of-three Deza from Redcar, Yorkshire, said: "They're
lovely. It's so crazy. They just follow me everywhere.</p><p>"When I first saw
them move I could hardly believe it. I was like, 'oh my god. I'm getting ducks!'
My bond with Daisy is really special.</p><p>"She cries for me all the time. I
think she's so attached to me because I had to help her and she hatched
last.</p><p>"I can't imagine now that somebody else could have bought and eaten
her."</p><p>Deza was testing her new incubator to ensure the temperature was
constant, and to check she could see inside the eggs, before using it to help
her breeding budgies.</p><p>She had seen a TikTok video where someone tested an
incubator with supermarket duck eggs, so used five, discarding one which was
cracked.</p><p>Deza saw veins developing in four of the duck eggs after five
days, and then began to see the little shapes of ducklings growing - and
beginning to move.</p><p>One of the developing chicks failed after a couple of
weeks, so Deza took it out of the artificial nest.</p><p>They hatched on June 11
and 12.<br></p>

Pastry chef goes viral after creating haunting-looking pies with scary faces
<p>This mysterious pastry chef from the northeast of England specialises in
creating the most spine-chilling pies you have ever seen.<br></p><p>The Vegan
Pastry Chef, on TikTok, also known as Gracey Cakes, has accumulated nearly 2.2
million followers on her account with her specific brand of creepy
bakes.</p><p>Gracey’s creations are both delicious and creepy looking vegan meat
and fruit pies shaped like faces, all wonky teeth, blood spatters and buggy
eyes.</p><p>Making something this scary AND delicious is hard enough on its own,
but doing it with no animal products is even harder, but Gracey seems nonchalant
about it.</p><p>“I have been a pastry chef for 10 years and I trained
professionally for 3 years so vegan baking comes natural to me. I used to figure
out vegan recipes through trial and error but now there is a vegan recipe for
anything out there!” Gracey explained</p><p>She’s making food, but it’s also
artistic expression, according to her: </p><p>“I was in a very dark place when I
began making face pies and I often put these negative emotions into the
expressions of the pies. It’s quite a cathartic experience,” Gracey
explained.</p><p>The pies she creates inhabit a very specific and strange level
of horror, that give a slight creepiness but also have a very calming
atmosphere. </p><p>“My intention when I started pie videos was to create
something calming and nostalgic, like old children’s cartoons that seemed
innocent but were really quite scary,” Gracey says.</p><p>It may be lost on
some, but this is not unnoticed by her viewers:</p><p>“This makes me feel at
home,” said one.</p><p>“Am I the only one who feels comfy watching her videos?”
Asked another.</p><p>“Scary but comforting at the same time, I love it.” Another
one mentioned.</p><p>They are clearly an art piece, made for their appearance on
video, but Gracey’s pies are delicious, as well.<br></p>

You won't be-leaf it! These cuban bartenders have been making cocktails from
native plants
Cuban bartenders Manuel Alejandro Valdés and Dagoberto Jesús Morejón are
passionate about cocktails.

But due to a shortage of syrups or liquor on the Caribbean island, the pair
decided to prepare drinks made from native plants.

Malva de caballo, Orozuz de la Tierra, Flor de Majagua (Hibiscus elatus) or Abre
Caminos (Koanophyllon villosum) -- a species associated with Santeria rituals --
are some of the ingredients they use for their recipes at The Bartenders
Association bar in Havana.

"Cuba at the moment is like a gold mine with lots of untapped resources," says
Morejón. "We are working with the land on our project. In another country, we
might just be two more bartenders."

Then they launched the project a year ago with the Association of Bartenders of
the island and have created a business to distribute syrups made from their
plants.

Together with specialists from the Botanical Association of Cuba they identified
about 50 plants with the potential to be used in their drinks.

At first, they planted them in pots and flowerbeds at their homes or collected
them from the surrounding area. Now they cultivate the species they need on a
farm outside of Havana.

Two of their floral creations, "Exotic Island" and "Autóctono" have won
recognition and prizes in international competitions.

Dynamic new destination Dubai Future District is a place that mixes business
with pleasure
A new business hub is forming in the heart of Dubai — but trade isn’t the only
reason to visit Dubai Future District. It’s an epicentre of fine dining, with
world-class restaurants, five-star rooftop pools and cultural landmarks,
including the unmissable new Museum of the Future.

Dubai is always evolving. Bold and ambitious, it’s an emirate focused on the
future and its newest neighbourhood is named accordingly. Dubai Future District
incorporates Dubai International Finance Centre (DIFC), Dubai World Trade Centre
and Emirates Towers District. The grouping defines Dubai’s incentivised business
centres – but this dynamic new destination is one that knows how to mix business
with pleasure.

Fun and Fine Dining in Dubai

With the opening of Gate Avenue mall, retail options are rising in Dubai Future
District. The mall contains local designer stores, a kids’ play area, co-working
spaces and South Market, a food hall with fashionable outlets, including Cereal
Killer Café, which serves breakfast for lunch and dinner.

For business dining that ascends the ordinary, Dubai Future District boasts a
concentration of exceptional restaurants. There are world-famous outlets with
reservation waiting lists that need little introduction, including Zuma Dubai ,
LPM Dubai and Amazonico Dubai .

Then there are homegrown concepts that form an essential foodie to-do list when
in the emirate. Mediterranean Boca is applauded for its efforts in sourcing
produce from local fishermen and farmers. The tapas is seasoned with praise.

An oasis in this modern concrete business quarter, Gaia is a pretty Greek
taverna that attracts royal patrons. The menu, crafted by charismatic Chef Izu
Ani, is full of personality, transporting guests to holiday idylls with dishes
such as mouth-watering watermelon and feta salad, scattered with almonds and
wisps of fragrant basil and mint. The fish of the day is simply grilled in
charcoal ovens and then drizzled with lemon oil.

Trèsind – a portmanteau of the French ‘very’ and ‘Indian’ – offers three
experiences in the neighbourhood. Carnival by Trèsind puts the fun into fine
dining, with blown soap bubbles part of the welcome ceremony and street food
carts tucked in corners. Trèsind is a regal blue dining room serving classic
Indian cuisine and Trèsind Studio is an exclusive dining room where Head Chef
Himanshu Saini serves impeccable Michelin-standard tasting menus that some would
argue are the finest in the city.

Rich in Art and Culture

Delicious, nutritious and underrated: top Dubai chef on why beetroot is best
As people everywhere are following World Heath Organization advice to stay at
home to help battle the spread of COVID-19, many are using this extra time to
get creative in the kitchen.

Looking for inspiration for new recipes and ingredients, Euronews spoke to Chef
Stinnissen, who runs one of Dubai’s most well-known restaurants – Boca.

“One of my favourite vegetables is beetroot, because I grew up with that and I
just loved the freshness, that earthy flavour, how pure it is, the colour.

Chef Stinissen applies cooking techniques normally used on beef to beetroot.
Braising the beetroot brings out some unique flavours from the vegetable and it
is how his popular ‘MeatRoot’ dish garnered its name.

Vegetables such as beetroot have not grown naturally in the desert region
before. Growing beetroot in extreme heat has brought different characteristics
to the vegetable compared to their European counterparts.

“It's very nutritious as well,” adds Stinissen. “We smoke it and we make a
puree. We'll make a powder just to highlight how beautiful a vegetable it can
be.”

Stay home, learn to cook

Across the globe, people are sharpening their culinary skills with recipes and
online tutorials but Stinnissen says that no one recipe will come out the same:

How one chef cuts a carrot may vary from the next chef. Similarly, the choice of
ingredients for a recipe may change according to a chef's palate and ethos.

Whether it's beef from Brazil, or coffee from Kenya, transporting these food
items internationally causes high levels of emissions, so produce with a small
carbon footprint is becoming increasingly popular as it has less impact on
global warming.

In Boca, patrons can enjoy a menu that is made from almost 90% of local seafood
and vegetables.

Many types of food that are not native to the Emirates are now sustainably grown
locally. Yazen Al Kodmani, an Operations Manager for a local farm, explains:
"The idea is you are trying to find what is seasonally available. What I can
cook with? If you are doing that you end up eating fresh, you end up eating more
nutritious food, and you end up reducing your carbon footprint as the food
you’re eating hasn’t travelled thousands of kilometres.”
