Capturing the titles in their respective divisions in the 2024 SCORE Manufacturer point standings are Mason Motorsports, Dougans Racing Engines, Can-Am Off-Road, Alumi Craft Race Cars, and Honda Motorcycles, names all very prominent in the international world of desert racing. The four-race 2024 SCORE World Desert Championship was held exclusively in Baja California, Mexico for the ninth consecutive season. The five companies will be among many awards and honors presented at the 2024 SCORE Awards Gala to be held Saturday, Jan. 18 at San Diego’s historic Air & Space Museum located at the popular Balboa Park. The colorful event will be honoring not only the 2024 SCORE World Desert Championship but also the first 51 years of the World’s Foremost Desert Racing Organization. MASON MOTORSPORTS—SCORE ORIGINAL TRUCK CHASSIS MANUFACTURER OF THE YEAR Mason Motorsports of Lake Elsinore, Calif. has rapidly ascended to the top tier in the desert racing world, building all-wheel drive SCORE Trophy Trucks among many other classes of vehicles to capture the 2024 SCORE Original Truck Chassis Manufacturer of the Year 2024 with 472 total points. Mason Motorsports has won four consecutive season point titles. In 2021, it was their first SCORE Original Truck Chassis Manufacturer of the Year award after a six-year run by Geiser Brothers since voting started in this category in 2015. Founded in 2004 by brothers Neal and Robert Mason, Mason Motorsports is producing some amazing AWD trucks. Leading the way for Mason in 2024 was SCORE San Felipe 250 overall winner Alan Ampudia, 33, Ensenada, Mexico, who won the 2024 SCORE Trophy Truck season point championship. A second-generation SCORE champion racer, Ampudia was also second in the SCORE Baja 400, third in the SCORE Baja 1000, and 10th in the SCORE Baja 500 to earn his first SCORE season point crown. Gustavo Vildosola Sr, Mexicali, Mexico in the SCORE TT Legend division for SCORE Trophy Truck drivers over 50 years old, won his class in all four races this season and 12 straight over the last three seasons with a Mason truck. Mason Motorsports picked up additional points in San Felipe in SCORE Trophy Truck. Placing behind where San Diego’s Luke McMillin was second and third was Mexico’s Gustavo Vildosola Jr, 42, Mexicali. In the SCORE Baja 500, Mason claimed all three podium spots in SCORE Trophy Truck with Australia’s Toby Price winning, Mexico’s Gustavo Vildosola Jr, Mexicali, second, and Christopher Polvoorde, Hemet, Calif., in third place. Las Vegas’ Bryce Menzies won the SCORE Baja 400 for the fourth consecutive year driving a Mason AWD truck, Ampudia was second and Price was third. DOUGANS—SCORE ENGINE BUILDER OF THE YEAR Earning their eighth SCORE Engine Builder of the Year point championship in 2024, Dougans Racing Engines also won the points in this award category for the eighth time in the last 10 years. Based in Riverside, Calif., Ray Field’s Dougans Racing Engines where Field has been a part of Dougans since 1980. Among the racers using Dougans engines that have helped secure the point crown in the 2024 SCORE World Desert Championship were Mexico’s Alan Ampudia in SCORE Trophy Truck, Mexico’s Gus Vildosola Sr in the SCORE TT Legend class, Las Vegas’ Thor Herbst in Trophy Truck Spec. All three drivers won their respective class point championships—Vildosola Sr won all four races, while Ampudia had three podium finishes including a win in the SCORE San Felipe 250, and Herbst had two podium finishes with Dougans engines, including a victory in the SCORE Baja 1000. CAN-AM—SCORE UTV MANUFACTURER OF THE YEAR Sweeping the podium in both the Pro UTV FI (Forced Induction) and the Pro UTV Stock classes in all four races in 2024, Canada’s Can-Am Off-Road captured the 2024 SCORE UTV Manufacturer point title for the first time in the 2024 SCORE World Desert Championship, A subsidiary of Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP), based in Valcourt, Quebec, Canada, Can-Am has a SCORE-high 568 total placement points in 2024. Kaden Wells, Hurricane, Utah (Pro UTV Stock) dominated his class in 2024, winning all four races. Phil Blurton, Auburn, Calif. (Pro UTV FI) won the three races in his class to contribute significantly to the Can-Am total and Erick Kozin who won the Pro UTV FI class point title with three podium finishes including the class win in the SCORE Baja 400. The Can-Am Off-Road champion was the manufacturer’s point title after Polaris won the points for nine consecutive years since the voting began in the UTV category in 2015. ALUMI CRAFT—SCORE ORIGINAL OPEN-WHEEL CHASSIS MANUFACTURER OF THE YEAR Based in Santee, Calif., Alumi Craft won the Open Wheel Chassis Manufacturer of the Year point championship for the sixth time in 2024, all in the last nine years. Founded in 2004, an increasing number of Alumi Craft vehicles continue to appear on SCORE race entry lists. With 243 total points after the four SCORE races in 2024, Alumi Craft swept the podium in Class 10 in San Felipe, secured first and third in Class 10 in both the SCORE Baja 500 and the SCORE Baja 400. Alumi Craft, and swept the podium in the season-ending SCORE Baja 1000. Driving in an Alumi Craft chassis, Cody Reid, Apple Valley, Calif., captured the season point championship in Class 1 with victories in the SCORE Baja 500, and SCORE Baja 1000, and a second in the SCORE San Felipe 250. Alumi Craft open-wheel race cars swept the Class 10 podium in the SCORE San Felipe 250 and the SCORE Baja 1000, while collecting more points by winning two podium spots each in the SCORE Baja 500 and the SCORE Baja 400. HONDA—SCORE MOTORCYCLE MANUFACTURER OF THE YEAR A perennial powerhouse in SCORE Baja motorcycle racing, for the 30th time, Honda captured the Motorcycle Manufacturer Point Standings with 559 total podium points. With no fully-supported factory teams currently part of SCORE Motorcycle racing, Honda has been a desert racing standard for over 40 years in SCORE Baja racing as the winningest motorcycle manufacturer of all time in SCORE history. El mexicalense Gustavo Vildósola Señor, ganó nuevamente las 4 fechas de la clase SCORE Trophy Trucks Legend, categoría que es para corredores de 50 años o más, extendiendo su fabulosa racha de triunfos en fila a 12, a bordo de un Truck Mason. La compañía Mason Motorsports sumó puntos adicionales en San Felipe dentro de “Los Monstruos del Desierto”, gracias al segundo lugar de Luke McMillin y el tercero conseguido por Gustavo “Tavo” Vildósola Junior. En la SCORE Baja 500, Mason consiguió el podio, gracias al triunfo del australiano Toby Price, el segundo sitio de “Tavo” Vildósola y el tercer lugar de Christopher Polvoorde, de Hemet, California. Su sede se encuentra en Riverside, California, de la mano de Ray Field, quien es parte de la empresa desde el lejano año de 1980. Los corredores que contaron con motores Dougan para coronarse en el Campeonato Mundial del Desierto 2024 de SCORE, aparecen el mexicano Alan Ampudia en los SCORE Trophy Trucks, el también azteca Gustavo Vildósola Señor en los SCORE Trophy Trucks Legend, y el nuevo monarca de la clase Trophy Truck Spec, Thor Herbst, de Las Vegas, Nevada. At the San Diego Air & Space Museum, over 500 SCORE racers, family, friends, crews, sponsors, and media will bask in the sunny Southern California spotlight as the SCORE Awards Gala will honor the history and fame of the name which is the standard for desert racing worldwide while honoring the four-race 2024 SCORE World Desert Championship. TASTY TICKETS Being held in the Pavilion of Flight at the historic museum, tickets priced at $89 per adult, a table for eight at $712, and children under 12 years old at $69, are being sold online at https://score.configio.com/pd/2867/ or by calling the Shannon Lund, SCORE Registration and Membership Director at 775.852.8907. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. PT for admission into the museum, followed by a pre-awards reception at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. and presentations starting at 7:30 p.m. This will be the sixth time and third since 2020 that the annual SCORE Awards Night gala will be held at the historic San Diego Air & Space Museum and the 14th time the historic evening will be held in Southern California since 2000, when it was held at Joe’s Garage automotive museum in Tustin, Calif. Because of the international health pandemic, the event was pre-recorded in both the 2020 and 2021 seasons from videos submitted by the award winners. The event celebrates the World’s Foremost Desert Racing Organization that completed its 51st season in November at the BFGoodrich Tires 57th SCORE Baja 1000. EARLY ENTRY Guests at the event will be allowed to enter the museum at 5:30 p.m. to view the numerous historical displays at the popular facility prior to the start of the reception at 6 p.m. AWESOME AWARDS In addition to the special SCORE Achievement Awards and the Pro and Sportsman classes that qualified racers for class season championships along with five overall point champions who will be honored. Another highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the eight annual SCORE Off-Roadsman of the Year Awards. Most of the awards for the SCORE Awards are being exclusively designed and specially produced for the second time by Lasernut, a premiere custom metal fabrication and laser cutting company based in Norco, Calif. Individuals as well as manufacturers and organizations are honored through eight distinct SCORE Off-Roadsman of the Year Awards, whose winners willbe decided by several thousand SCORE fans through online voting including the entire SCORE membership of more than 2,500.
