Quite frankly, the Star Ocean franchise was better off on a silent hiatus after
The Last Hope. Complete with a painfully dry story, and Integrity and
Faithlessness has almost nothing going for it. If anything, all this insistence
on real time does is prevent the core combat from living up to previous entries.
It's an ambitious project for sure, but Integrity and Faithlessness does not use
its gimmick well. This philosophy is also applied to cutscene direction, with
Integrity and Faithlessness opting to make everything happen in real-time.
Everyone fights at once, and battles no longer take place in dedicated arenas
but in the overworld– so as to keep the gameplay constantly flowing.

No longer to players even need to think about their party. For starters,
Integrity and Faithlessness continues The Last Hope's trend of a static party
(something that flies in the face of how the series approaches party
composition,) but with one big change: everyone fights. The fifth mainline entry
in the series, Star Ocean: I&F makes a number of notable changes that end up
depriving it of Star Ocean's charm. Until Integrity and Faithlessness, that is.
Even at its absolute worst, Star Ocean managed to pull through thanks to
incredibly tight gameplay.

There is exactly one thing that bothered me at all while reading the series (and
really, “bothered” is a pretty strong word), but for whatever reason, that’s
what I feel most moved to speak about right now. Really, I am very happily in
love with it. (Note to Ysabet: Wow do I understand why you love who you love
best now.) The series has so much charm and is filled with such wonder and
sweet, sweet humanity. Oh what characters! I love every single one of them.

The characters in Fruits Basket have been permanently affixed to my heart, and I
am thrilled about that. So first of all, I want to be perfectly clear about one
thing: I love Fruits Basket. I make this post with some trepidation, because I
think there are at least a couple of people waiting anxiously to hear what I
think of this series, and it seems completely wrong that the first thing I’m
writing since I’ve finished it may appear a bit negative.

The project was put together by Danny Beckerman and Will Malone, who are known
mainly for making orchestral arrangements for other artists (Prior to this,
their primary connection to progressive rock was their orchestral arrangement
work on Rick Wakeman's concept albums Journey to the Center of the Earth (1974)
and The Myths and Legends of King Arthur (1975), and perhaps got the idea to put
together their own epic concept album from those experiences).

The album purports to be a concert from the future by the illustrious
Intergalactic Touring Band, an immensely popular band that spreads musical
goodwill throughout intergalactic space, and the songs present a sort of history
of civilisation and their journey to colonize the stars and interact with robots
and alien species. Ok, today I have a real vinyl curiosity, the Intergalactic
Touring Band from 1977, which was a science fiction concept album featuring
dozens of well-known guest artists from progressive and classic rock. King,
Meatloaf, Clarence Clemons, and many more.
