The ultimate post-cool ambassador: Virgil was kind. Generous. Earnest. And honest about his influences. No arrogance. No ironic detachment. The fan who saw that the way people gain context was changing, and as avatar he could stir desire by expressing his love of culture. He understood he could flatten it all on ig. I’ve been thinking about the stories I’ve taken for granted: I remember showing him S-Type’s Billboard cover before we went to print. Vinyl/Tshirt Bundles available in the store → more 01.09.21 Today we announce the new album by Clemens Bacher aka CID RIM, ‘Songs from Vienna’ is a psychedelic ride from the Austrian capital. For around a decade Clemens has built a scene in Vienna for jazz influenced electronic music. Working as songwriter and producer with Petite Noir, Denai Moore and Damon Albarn over the last five years it became natural to involve his own voice in his music. When we started receiving demos from Clem, featuring hazy beach boys harmonies we knew his music was daring to evolve. Songs of Vienna, out October 15, is an album of the year. It feels like the world at the moment... saturated with history and daring to leap into the future for answers. These songs work as intimate pop records - a young man moving to London and reflecting on his home town. Or treaties on a symbolic Vienna: colonialism, social democracy and the climate disaster. But the album is refreshing, full of life and sonically unmatched: with live instrumentation and choirs brewed into his electronic compositions, Clemens has made a brave leap forward. Icons out June 25: a latticework of melodic percussion, drum set, and electro-acoustic instrumentation, built upon fragments of American abstraction, ancient scales, industrial percussion and jazz-age film noir to achieve its feeling of imperial decay. In the five years since his last full length, Jason W. Chung has proceeded through family health-scares and house break-ins: those tectonic shifts that help define our character. Throughout the recording, Jason referred to a photo he’d acquired the rights to, from fabled hip hop photographer Eddie Otchere. The image depicted an open road at dusk: somewhere remote, high in the Western Highlands of Scotland. The image possesses an embodied, cinematic quality, begging the viewer to continue down the path can’t foresee. Consequently, Jason trucked forward gathering friends and likeminded artists across emerging Hip Hop, Jazz, Soul and the Avant Garde: HYUKOH, Toro y Moi, Kazu Makino, serpentwithfeet, Sam Gendel, Coby Sey, Julianna Barwick, Mike Andrews, Slauson Malone, Pink Siifu, Panda Bear & Eyedress. Patiently sculpting a record that encourages us to keep going. Nosaj Thing's expertise is in crafting exquisite soundscapes that hold a mirror up to his journey from noise and punk shows at DIY venue The Smell, to his debut sets at Low End Theory, to touring with The xx and The Weeknd. Throughout, he has innovated with a live experiences conceived with Tokyo-based AV savant Daito Manabe. Chung's music carries such visceral humanity it feels like a disservice to refer to the 'mood' which pervades his records. But it's exactly that distinct mood which has made Nosaj Thing such a cult artists across his 16-year-deep discography. We Are (우리는) is the first single from a record that sees Chung's scope as composer, producer and arranger exceed expectation. Continua is out worldwide, October 28. “one of hip-hop’s preeminent modern minimalists, and the results are frequently sublime… assembled with almost architectural grace” - Pitchfork “Nosaj Thing conjures nothing less than rapture” - The New York Times → Buy Record RELEASE DATE: 25.08.2022 (LM085) Cameron Morse - The Truth Is Cameron Morse is a Montreal-based musician whose experiments first created waves as half of Littlebabyangel’s 2015 album Gada - released as a mixtape within an email chain letter. Following a standout remix on Jacques Greene’s Dawn Chorus, his debut ep expresses a political motive behind Cameron's practice: his music, fashion design, writing and digital painting. Morse considers The Truth Is part of a years-long project named Anthropocene: a blog and upcycled clothing experiment to challenge fast fashion. Through single editions of garments carrying blunt, factual typographic prints he badges a tiny community of fashion consumers aware of their role in consumption and desire. The work is aggressively direct and aims to create a waypoint for people feeling unable to contribute to the body politic. The Truth Is employs the stems of todays DIY bedroom producer to express our milieu: catharsis thru hacked poly synth, drum machine, electric guitar and voice. Where ambient music has become synonymous with commerce and productivity, Cameron’s textures tune-out and drop-in, suspending themselves in air. Doomer vacuity beyond the body: this stunning record expresses the loss of meaning in the modern world and begs we move together towards our potential future. “...feels like entering the eye of a hurricane” — Pitchfork → Buy Record Artists AMERICAN MEN ANGO BAAUER THE BLESSINGS CAMERON MORSE CASHMERE CAT CID RIM CLAUDE SPEEED DENZEL HIMSELF DJ PAYPAL DOSS ECLAIR FIFI ELI KESZLER HUDSON MOHAWKE INKKE JACQUES GREENE JOSEPH MARINETTI KUČKA LITTLEBABYANGEL LUNICE MACHINEDRUM MIKE SLOTT NADSROIC NAKED NATHAN MICAY NOSAJ THING OMEGA SAPIEN PARC EN CIEL RUSTIE SAM O.B.
