And while we know we're all tightening the purse strings, we wanted to find out more about what sacrifices you are having to make and how it is affecting all of us. Have Your Say is a newsletter for readers who want to have their voice heard. We ask subscribers for their thoughts on the most pressing topics affecting the UK at the minute. You can sign up and Have Your Say HERE. Our latest survey was on the cost of living and there were some shocking results. To keep costs down, the weekly takeaway is now a thing of the past. Just 11% of respondents said they still had the treat each week while 53% said they indulged "hardly ever". Nearly half of people (47%) were not going on holiday this year and only 22% said they were going abroad. The rising cost of fuel has seen a massive shift in driving trends too with 60% of people saying they were now driving less. It's no wonder we're all making these changes when 97% of readers told us that their weekly shop had increased and 66% said it had gone up by a lot. A whopping 66% of people said their weekly shop had gone up by a lot ( Image: Peter Cade via Getty) While more than half (53%) said they were always savvy when it came to food shopping, 37% of people said that it was more important now to grab an offer or yellow sticker item. But it's not all about bargain hunting. We had hundreds of readers telling us their money-saving tips and tricks from batch cooking to ensuring all the electrics are switched off when not in use. PROMOTED STORIES One reader suggested downloading food-saving apps Too Good to Go and Olio, while another suggested saving app Plum as a good way of putting money aside for Christmas. Many suggested cooking from scratch and avoiding any unneeded expenses including ready meals with some saying they have saved money from ditching the oven and only using their air fryer or microwave.
