heavily people-related jobs such as human resources, marketing, and sales have
psychology degrees.

Our mission is to provide prospective psychology students with resources they
need to make good decisions about their education and career choices. In

in its region. In addition to these six, the US Department of Education and the
Council for Higher Education Accreditation lists a total of eight regional
accreditation bodies for higher education accreditation.

   and Schools
 * The Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools
 * The Middle States Commission on Higher Education
 * The New England Association of Schools and Colleges
 * The North Central Association of Colleges and Schools
 * The Northwest Accreditation Commission
 * The Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU)

Specific Accreditation. These are accrediting bodies that cater to one specific
subject areas and have criteria that programs must fulfill in order to receive
accreditation. These include bodies such as the Council for Accreditation of
Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), the National Council for

ONLINE DOCTOR OF PSYCHOLOGY PROGRAMS

For those students who have completed their undergraduate training, and perhaps
have earned their Master’s Degree, the next step is to pursue a Doctoral Degree
in Psychology. You can choose from either a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or a
Doctor of Psychology (PsyD). The biggest difference between the degree options
is that a PhD program is heavily based in the scientific aspects of psychology,
including research and academia. The PsyD, on the other hand, is heavily based
in the clinical and practical aspects of psychology. Students earning an online
PsyD have gained the skills necessary to engage in therapy and counseling. The
most readily accessible online doctoral degree are online PsyD Programs. These
programs train psychologists, at the highest-level possible, to become fully
licensed and fully qualified mental health counselors and psychologists. Upon
completion of an Online PsyD Program, students can secure positions in the
exciting field of professional psychologists. Many online PsyD programs allow
students to choose an area of concentration or specialization. Some of these
include Industrial and Organization Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Social
Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Engineering Psychology, Human Development,
Child Psychology, School Psychology, Gerontology and many more.

CAREER SPECIALIZATIONS FOR PSYCHOLOGY GRADS

Clinical Psychologist

To become a Clinical Psychologist a professional must earn a minimum of a
Master’s Degree and most states require a PhD, PsyD or EdD Degree to become
fully licensed. Most states also require that students complete a supervised
internship for a set amount of hours in order to become licensed. The average
annual salary of a Clinical Psychologist is approximately $72,540 per year, with
a great degree of variation depending upon years of experience, degree level,
area of specialization and the region in which you practice. Clinical
Psychologists provide psychotherapy and mental health treatment to clients
living with a wide range of problems. While some Psychologists treat individuals
suffering from forms of mental illness, others work with people who are
experiencing a single issue or traumatic event. In addition to working directly
with clients, some Psychologists pursue a career conducting research, teaching
at the collegiate level or provide vocational counseling. According to the
Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Handbook (BLS-OH), the field of
Psychology is projected to grow 12 percent over the next ten years, which is
considered “as fast as the average for all occupations” with major variations
depending upon specialty. Some specialty areas will see a much greater rate of
growth.

Professional Counselor

A Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), also referred to as a Mental Health
Counselor, is responsible for working directly with clients to help them face
the many challenges that come from both emotional disturbances and mental
illness. The minimum degree requirements for a Mental Health Counselor is a
Master’s Degree in Psychology or a related field, such as Counseling as well as
the appropriate certification offered by the state in which they practice. Those
Counselors who possess a Doctoral Degree, such as a PhD or PsyD will have
greater opportunities for employment in the field. Professional Counselors
diagnose and treat psychiatric disorders, such as Anxiety, Depression and
Bi-Polar Disorder. They work with their clients to discuss emotions, behaviors
and experiences and help clients make important decisions that will influence
their future. Counselors work with clients to help them create functional
strategies to cope with problematic situations and in many cases it is the
Counselors job to coordinate treatment with other professionals. Because
Counselors are not Medical Doctors, they do not have the qualifications to
prescribe medications. They will often work with a Psychiatrist or other medical
doctor to ensure that their clients are properly receiving medications. Most
Professionals Counselors work in a private practice setting, outpatient mental
health clinics, hospitals or mental health and substance abuse facilities.
According to the BLS-OH, the anticipated employment growth for Mental Health
Counselors is much higher than average with a projection of as much as 37
percent. The median average salary for mental health counselors was $39,710,
just above the national average for all careers.

Marriage and Family Therapists (MFT’s) are highly trained professionals who work
directly with individuals, couples and families to help create more positive
relationships or work to save tattered relationships. MFT’s often tackle issues
such as difficulties with self-esteem, managing stress, marital discord,
troubling family dynamics and the impact of addictions on the family. These
professionals work alongside their clients to help foster more positive
relationships with each other and other people around them. They meet with
families, couples and individuals to help get the most out of each counseling
session. Most Marriage and Family Therapists are employed in private practice,
however some can be found at hospitals, outpatient centers, doctors’ offices or
residential facilities. MFT’s are sometimes asked to give testimony in court
regarding issues like child custody or divorce proceedings. The minimum
educational requirement to become an MFT is a Master’s Degree in Psychology,

responsible for managing and maintaining the budgets of the agencies they work
for or the programs they are responsible for. The minimum educational
requirement for this field is a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work,
Urban Studies, Public Health or a related field. Those individuals who possess a
Master’s Degree will be awarded more job opportunities, more responsibility and
a higher annual salary than those with a Bachelor’s Degree. According to the
BLS-OH, growth in this area is anticipated to be steep through 2020 at a rate of
21 percent, which is higher than the national average. As of May 2012, the

very specific type of psychology that requires formal training in the field. I/O
Psychologists apply principles and knowledge to various workplace and industry
settings to help boost employee morale, teach more effective managerial styles,
