veterinary care can really add up over a pet’s life. If your dog or cat gets
hurt or sick, pet insurance (AKA health insurance for pets) can reimburse you
for a large portion of any eligible vet bills. This can make it easier to
provide your pet with the best care possible – even when it comes at a high cost
– and save thousands on medical expenses over their lifetime.

HOW MUCH IS PET INSURANCE?



The cost of your Pumpkin Pet Insurance plan will depend on a few key factors:

Breed: Certain breeds have more health problems than others and cost a little
more to insure, so this is a factor that can impact the monthly cost of your
plan.

Location: Average vet care costs in your city are taken into consideration, so
pet parents in cities with less costly vet care may have lower monthly premiums
(and vice versa).

Age: Older pets are at a higher risk for developing certain health issues, so
you can expect to pay a higher monthly premium for an adult or senior vs. a
puppy or kitten. That said, Pumpkin will NEVER reduce or limit coverage for
aging pets.

Species: Generally speaking, dogs tend to cost more to insure than cats.
However, this won’t always be the case depending on the breed, age, and location
of your pet.

Annual Coverage Limit: The amount your insurance plan is designed to cover in
eligible vet bills each year will impact the cost of your plan. Higher annual
limits usually result in higher monthly premiums, whereas lower annual limits
result in lower ones.

Annual Deductible: How much you choose to pay towards covered vet bills each
year before your 90% cash back kicks in will also affect the monthly cost of
your plan. In general, the higher the annual deductible, the lower the monthly
premium.

WHICH PET INSURANCE COVERS PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS?



No pet insurance, including Pumpkin, covers “pre-existing conditions” that
showed symptoms or were treated before your pet’s coverage starts or during the
waiting period – at least at first.

If a pre-existing condition is curable (e.g., UTI, paw fracture), was cured, and
has been symptom- and treatment-free for 180 days, Pumpkin can cover the
condition if it occurs again in the future, with the exception of knee & hind
leg ligament conditions. This WILL NOT be the case with all insurance providers.

DO ALL VETS TAKE PET INSURANCE?

to a “network” of health care providers. Since we pay you back directly, your
dog is free to receive treatment from any licensed veterinarian, specialist,
emergency clinic or hospital you choose in the U.S. or Canada!

WHICH PET INSURANCE COVERS DENTAL?



Did you know 70% of cats and 80% of dogs show signs of gum disease by age 3?!11
While it seems like a no brainer, not all pet insurances cover dental illnesses.
Some providers, like Healthy Paws and Lemonade, don’t cover them at all. Others,
like Embrace, will only reimburse you up to $1k per year for dental illnesses,
or require an annual dental exam first, like Trupanion.

Unlike some pet insurances, Pumpkin covers dental illnesses (including
periodontal disease AKA gum disease), along with any exams, X-rays, procedures,
and prescription meds used to diagnose or treat them. Pumpkin also covers tooth
extractions for dental injuries. Pumpkin just doesn’t cover annual dental
cleanings or certain cosmetic or elective services. If you have a coverage

DOES PET INSURANCE COVER VACCINES?



Pet insurance is designed to cover the diagnostics and veterinary treatments
your pet needs to get healthy if unexpected accidents and illnesses occur. It is
not designed to cover routine wellness care your pet needs to stay healthy
year-round, like vaccines to help prevent infectious diseases.

That said, we know insurance alone won’t solve your pet’s health & wellness
needs. It’s why unlike some pet insurances, Pumpkin offers an optional pack of
wellness benefits called Preventive Essentials that you can add to your
