The White House announced Saturday that more classified documents had been found in the Delaware home of President Biden on Thursday, raising additional questions about why the discovery was not previously disclosed. White House lawyer Richard Sauber made the announcement shortly before noon Saturday, noting in a written a statement that “five additional pages with classification markings were discovered among the material with it, for a total of six pages.” According to Sauber, the Department of Justice “immediately took possession of them.” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre made no mention of those five additional pages during a Friday press conference. When asked Thursday about the possibility of additional classified information being unearthed in subsequent searches, Jean-Pierre replied, “You should assume that it’s been completed, yes.” Recommended ✕ Advertisement * 1 Mollie Hemingway: Our Department Of Justice Has Been Politicized To Go After Political Opponents And Protect Allies * 2 AG Garland Appoints Special Counsel To Investigate President Biden Mishandling Classified Documents * 3 McCarthy: Where Are The Leaked Photos Of President Biden's Documents? Sherrill: When Were Biden's Classified Documents Discovered And Why Are We Just Finding Out Now? More from Real Clear Improperly stored classified documents have been discovered in three locations thus far. First, according to Attorney General Merrick Garland, "a small number” were found on November 2 in an office at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement in Washington, D.C. Second, on December 20, according to the DOJ, Biden’s personal lawyers discovered a second batch of classified documents in the garage of his Delaware home. Third, last Thursday, the White House acknowledged that “one page” of classified information had been discovered in “an adjacent room.” It wasn’t until Saturday that White House counsel announced that five additional pages were discovered that same day. In the lengthiest statement to date, the White House counsel laid out on Saturday more about that discovery as well as the principles and process guiding the White House as they seek to “coordinate with the Archives and the Department of Justice.” Sauber said Biden’s personal lawyers halted their search Wednesday when they came across the previously reported page of classified material because they “do not have active security clearances.” “Because I have a security clearance, I went to Wilmington Thursday evening to facilitate providing the document the President's personal counsel found on Wednesday to the Justice Department,” Sauber wrote. “While I was transferring it to the DOJ officials who accompanied me, five additional pages with classification markings were discovered among the material with it, for a total of six pages. The DOJ officials with me immediately took possession of them.” The White House has insisted repeatedly that they are working to handle the classified material “by the book,” and Sauber said again Saturday that the president’s personal lawyers “acted immediately and voluntarily” to turn all information over to the DOJ and National Archives. The issue now, he concluded, is in the hands of the special counsel appointed by the attorney general to handle the matter. “We’ve now publicly released specific details about the documents identified, how they were identified, and where they were found,” he wrote. “The appointment of the Special Counsel in this matter this week means we will now refer specific questions to the Special Counsel’s office moving forward.” The consecutive disclosures of improperly stored classified documents have raised questions of Biden’s handling of intelligence while vice president and whether the White House has been fully transparent throughout those revelations. “We first learned about the Penn Biden Center classified documents months after they were found in an unsecure closet. Then it took the White House weeks to inform the public about the documents found in President Biden’s Wilmington garage. And now days later, we are learning that there are more documents at the Wilmington residence,” Rep. James Comer, chair of the House Oversight Committee said in a statement Saturday afternoon. “Are there more classified documents to be found?” Biden first addressed the documents found in the Penn Biden Center Tuesday while in Mexico City, but made no mention of the documents discovered in his home. It wasn’t until Thursday that Biden spoke about the classified documents in his garage. “It’s not like they’re sitting out in the street,” Biden said, confirming that the classified information was behind locked doors in his garage, “as well as my Corvette.” When pressed on why Biden spoke about the documents found in the private office, but not those discovered in his home, Jean-Pierre told reporters, “Because there was a process happening that was currently ongoing.” When asked why the five pages of additional documents weren’t disclosed earlier, a spokesman for the White House declined to comment and referred RealClearPolitics to the White House counsel’s office. Bob Bauer, the president’s personal lawyer, released a separate statement on Saturday, explaining how Biden’s legal team has “attempted to balance the importance of public transparency where appropriate with the established norms and limitations necessary to protect the investigation’s integrity.” He added that “these considerations require avoiding the public release of detail relevant to the investigation while it is ongoing.” Biden said Thursday, “I’m going to get a chance to speak on all this, God willing, soon,” though the White House has not released details about any forthcoming address. The discovery of documents seems to have caught the president off-guard. He said as much Tuesday in Mexico City, telling reporters he was “surprised to learn that there were any government records that were taken there to that office.” Recommended Newsletters Carl M.
