That's because all of the suite's essential features work as they always did,
though with added options and conveniences. There's nothing so startlingly new
that it will get in the way of. In August 2016, Microsoft released an automatic
update that replaced the old 32-bit code of Office for the Mac with 64-bit code.
The 64-bit version starts up faster, but otherwise it looks and acts like the
earlier code, which was already an Editors' Choice for office suites. Payment

familiar with Office for Windows, while also integrating it more closely than

source of the problem and look elsewhere for a solution. But if the other device
can connect and your Mac can’t, even after a restart, skip ahead to the step

Reset your router For network problems that lie beyond your Mac, if you own or
control the network device your Mac connects to (such as an AirPort base
station, Time Capsule, router, switch, or hub), turn that device off, wait about
10 seconds, and turn it back on again. Wait for it to power on completely

again. If there’s more than one such device between you and the Internet—for
example, an AirPort Express connected to a cable modem—start with the one
closest to the Internet and then work your way back to your Mac, cycling the

States) iCloud, Microsoft Exchange, Gmail, Twitter, Facebook, Yahoo, AOL, Vimeo,
and Flickr. At the very bottom of the list is an an Add Other Account. Your
Mail, Contacts & Calendars system preference should look something like this. To
use these services, you must first set up an account with them—something that
you can’t do within this preference. If, for example, you wish to set up a Gmail
account, launch a Web browser (Apple’s Safari is the default) and travel to.

features—for example, you’d rather not sync your Gmail calendars and reminders
with your Mac’s Calendar and Reminders applications (and I’ll talk about why you
might not want to do this when I discuss those specific applications in a later
column)—simply uncheck the ones you’d prefer to do without. When you’re done,
click Add Account.

You’ll see a spinning gear icon next to the enabled features, which indicates
that your Mac is syncing Gmail’s data with the appropriate applications on your
computer. You will notice as well that your Gmail account now appears in the
list of configured accounts. If you’d like to use a different name for your
account, select it, click the Details button to the right, and in the sheet that
appears, enter a new name in the Description field and click OK. The advantages

If you’ve chosen to synchronize your email with Google, go ahead and launch the

old days, you not only had to know a load of arcane settings (details such as
email server addresses and ports, which I’ll get to in a bit) but you also
needed to configure multiple applications to put everything together. Now, in
most cases, the Mac OS automatically takes care of those arcane settings and
configures them in this single system preference. Adding even more accounts
works much the same way: Click the plus button below the list of accounts, click

DO I NEED TO USE A CONVERTER FOR MY MAC LAPTOP CHARGER

I'm currently set to study abroad in Japan, and I have a few questions about
what converters/adapters I'll need. Regrettably, I need to admit I'm not very
tech-savvy, making this issue a bit more complicated for me. Electricity in
Japan runs at 100 volts and 50 hertz, and most (if not all) outlets only accept
2-prong plugs, according to the predeparture information I was provided with.
