WE’RE MAKING THE WORLD MORE OPEN
AND CONNECTED. WANT TO HELP?

Working at Facebook means doing what you love. We hire trailblazers, hackers and
pioneers. We want people who can solve challenging problems, make a real impact
and build something big. You should join us.
For contractor opportunities at Facebook, click here.

WE DON’T HAVE RULES. WE HAVE VALUES.

FOCUS ON IMPACT

To have the biggest impact, we need to focus on solving the most important
problems. It sounds simple, but most companies do this poorly and waste a lot of
time. We expect everyone at Facebook to be good at finding the biggest problems
to work on.

MOVE FAST

We have a saying: “Move fast and break things.” The idea is that if you never
break anything, you’re probably not moving fast enough. At Facebook, we’re less
afraid of making mistakes than we are of losing opportunities.

BE BOLD

We have another saying: “The riskiest thing is to take no risks.” In a world
that’s changing so quickly, you’re guaranteed to fail if you don’t take any
risks. We encourage everyone to make bold decisions, even if that means being
wrong some of the time.

BE OPEN

We believe that a more open world is a better world. The same goes for our
company. Informed people make better decisions and have a greater impact, which
is why we work hard to make sure everyone at Facebook has access to as much
information about the company as possible.

BUILD SOCIAL VALUE

Facebook was created to make the world more open and connected, not just to
build a company. We expect everyone at Facebook to focus every day on how to
build real value for the world in everything they do.

FRIDAY 25 APRIL 2014

FACEBOOK AND YOUR BUSINESS

FACEBOOK AND YOUR BUSINESS

If you’re looking to create a Facebook page, you’re not the only one. Businesses
have begun to see real results from the use of these user-friendly pages. Since
so many people are using Facebook profiles for personal use as well as for
professional reasons, it makes sense to learn how to create a Facebook pages for
your business too.

TYPES OF FACEBOOK PAGES

Facebook Fan Pages
Once upon a time, there was an option to create Facebook Fan pages, and most
people in business still refer to them as such, but Facebook now refers to Fan
pages as "Official" pages. The stir in naming came about when Facebook changed
the button for following these pages from "Become a fan" to "Like". You can
‘like’ as many of these pages as you want and you can create as many Facebook
Fan or "Official" pages you want for others to like.
Facebook describes the benefit of creating business pages as:

> "Communicate with your customers and fans by creating and maintaining an
> official Facebook Page."

Facebook Group and Community Pages
You can also create a Group or Community page, rather than a Facebook Fan page,
and there are options to do that to the right on the page that opens when you
create a business page. However, keep in mind the following about the different
types of Facebook pages:
 * Facebook Group pages are not indexed in Google, while Facebook Fan pages are.
 * If you create a Community page and it gets very popular, you run the risk
that Facebook will take over the administration of that page and you will
lose all control over it. This is not true of a Facebook Fan page.
 * Facebook Fan pages are far and away the best choice for a Facebook page to
promote a small or home business because you can fully customize them,
appoint an alternate administrator(s) and because you retain full control
   over them.

MORE BENEFITS OF A FACEBOOK PAGE FOR BUSINESS

The benefits for business of having a Facebook page are many. They include:
 * The Facebook page for your fans will help you to connect with your customers
and clients in a more personal way.
 * Having a business Facebook page helps to create a more professional
appearance and a more professional reputation in your market.
 * A Facebook page allows you to send updates about events, promotions, and
other newsworthy happenings related to your business.
 * You can interact with your customers and clients by starting discussions and
within comments and photos that you post on Facebook.
 * Having a Facebook page for your business also give you an additional method
for controlling access to your most private (and potentially embarrassing)
Facebook posts. Rather than agreeing to be Facebook friends with strangers
and clients (who you’d rather not know about your personal and family life),
you can invite them to "like" your Fan page instead and send them the URL for
the page. That way they can keep up with developments about your business
without having access to your personal Facebook updates.
You have an option of letting your Facebook page visitors write on your wall
and you can control what they post. However, the more unrestricted you are
about letting people post on your business page, the more interaction you’ll
get and the more followers you’ll get. You will want to check regularly for
spam posts and remove them promptly, but it’s worth it to allow your
prospects and customers – your “fans” – to interact freely with you.

   SEE A SAMPLE FACEBOOK PAGE

Here are a few examples of Facebook Fan pages for business so you can see
what’s possible in creating your own:
 * About Home Business - http://facebook.com/About.HomeBusiness This is a basic
fan page with hardly any customization. I just used a screen shot of my home
page as my profile picture for this Facebook Fan page. You'll see the "Like"
button at the top of the page if you havent' already clicked it. If not, I
encourage you to do so and you'll get updates automatically in Facebook.
 * Mari Smith – http://facebook.com/MariSmith - An example of how Facebook Fan
pages can be fully customized. Notice that you land on her Welcome tab
   instead of her wall.
 * Social Media Examiner – http://facebook.com/smexaminer - Another great
example of how Facebook Fan pages can be customized to the hilt. Like Mari
Smith’s page, you land on the Welcome tab where you are encouraged to “Like”
the page. Once you “Like” the page, you’ll go straight to the Wall tab when
   you visit instead.

You know the type. He created a Facebook account in 2009 and hasn't touched it
since. No profile picture. No status update. Occasionally, someone tags him in a
photo, but does he even receive the notification?
Try this one: She waits, quietly. She doesn't "like" things, and she definitely
doesn't comment. In fact, she rarely does anything at all besides slink through
Facebook like a jungle cat, silently judging your waistline in your beach
vacation pictures.

Everyone has his or her own social media style, but there are definite patterns
in Facebook user behavior. For businesses hoping to utilize Facebook's

FACEBOOK CEO ZUCKERBERG’S BASE SALARY FALLS TO $1

FACEBOOK CEO ZUCKERBERG’S BASE SALARY FALLS TO $1

Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of Facebook Inc., at the Newseum in Washington,
D.C., on Sept. 18, 2013.
Mark Zuckerberg has decided he’s a $1-a-year man.
Zuckerberg, who is Facebook Inc. (FB)’s chief executive officer and also the
22nd richest person in the world as ranked by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index,
was paid $1 in salary for 2013, according to a regulatory filing with the U.S.
Securities and Exchange Commission yesterday. That’s down from a base salary of
$503,205 in 2012, the year that Facebook went public.
Zuckerberg is following the well worn path of other Silicon Valley technology
moguls who also chose to take on the symbolic annual salary of $1 after they
were already wealthy. Apple Inc.’s late co-founder Steve Jobs helped popularize
the practice, which is today also espoused by Google Inc. co-founders Larry
Page and Sergey Brin, among others. All own sizable equity stakes in their own
companies.

Zuckerberg, whose wealth totals around $27 billion, owns Facebook shares that
give him 61.6 percent of voting power in the Menlo Park, California-based social
network, according to the filing. He saw his net worth balloon last year as
Facebook’s stock more than doubled in value. The 29-year-old has ramped up his
public service and philanthropy, including starting a group called Internet.org
to connect the world to the Web.

PRIVATE PLANES

Zuckerberg’s total compensation last year was $653,165, down from $1.99 million
in 2012. The amount, besides the $1 salary, was for the passenger fees, fuel,
crew and catering costs for his use of private planes for personal reasons, as
part of his security program, according to the filing.
The CEO also made $3.3 billion last year after exercising stock options to
purchase 60 million shares, according to the filing. Zuckerberg offered 41.35
million of those shares in a secondary offering by Facebook in December. At the
time, the company said Zuckerberg would use the majority of the proceeds to pay
for the taxes incurred in connection with the transaction. He also gifted 18
million shares to charity.
Other Facebook leaders also saw their compensation fall from 2012 levels. Chief
Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg received $16.2 million in total compensation
in 2013, compared with $26.2 million a year earlier. She became a billionaire in
January as Facebook’s shares soared, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires
Index.
Chief Financial Officer David Ebersman made $10.5 million in compensation last
year, compared with the $17.5 million in 2012. Vice President David Fischer’s
compensation totaled $8 million last year, down from $12 million in 2012, while
Chief Technology Officer Mike Schroepfer gained $12.6 million last year, down
from $20.7 million a year earlier.
