The position of Poinsett County Sheriff/Collector may be two separate positions under a proposal headed to the state legislature next year. At its meeting Monday evening, the Poinsett County Quorum Court approved a resolution expressing support for legislation to separate both offices. According to the resolution, nearly a third of the state’s 75 counties have consolidated offices for Sheriff and Collector with officials saying it will be more effective and efficient to separate the offices. Read More METROPLAN GRANTS $17.35 MILLION FOR CENTRAL ARKANS... A $17.35 million funding infusion will help central Arkansas expand and grow its transportation options. A Metroplan spokesperson said Monday that the agency is funding projects in nine cities and two counties through block grants for project design or construction. Funding improvements will ease traffic flow and add to the growing central Arkansas trail system to access and link cities throughout the region.
