BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE OFFICE

Before independence, this office was named office of the Deputy Controller (Post
and Telegraphs). In 1974, after the advent of Bangladesh as an independent
country, following an office order, the name of this office was changed to
Accountant General (Post, Telephone and Telegraphs). Since then, the office was
responsible for both the work of audit and accounts till 1986. Later, the AG
system was abolished in 1986 and three independent offices were created, namely
office of the Chief Accounts Officer (Postal), office of the Chief Accounts
Officer (T&T) and Director, office of the PT&T Audit. But in 1995, office of the
Comptroller and Auditor General, by an office order, changed the designation
from Director to Director General. In 2014, the responsibility of post audit of
ministry of Science and Technology was given to this Directorate and accordingly
the name of this office was changed to Directorate of Post, Telecommunications,
Science and Technology Audit. Again in 2019, Finance Division by an office
order, created seventeen (17) audit directorates instead of existing ten (10)
and this office was named Directorate of Science, Information and Technology
