Each lesson is meant to properly teach the topic(s) included with material revised and ordered in accordance with feedback. * Why is IMABI Difficult? いまび is admittedly not easy in the sense that it was not designed to be an alternative to standard resources such as the Genki series. It will never be the equivalent of telling a class of algebra students that X + Y = Z and leaving it at that. * Why All This Vocab and Kanji? When reading through any mainstream textbook, a learner is expected to study a few hundred words here and a few hundred Kanji (Chinese characters) there. At most, a learner may pass N3 if they study really hard with their textbooks. In reality, an educated native speaker will know upwards of 50,000 words and recognize 3-5,000 Kanji. The gap between learner and native by these numbers is terrifying. Here at いまび, you are in control of how much time you devote to Japanese. It is then my job to make sure that each topic is explained as thoroughly as possible so that you just might prepare yourself enough to narrow that gap between yourself and a native speaker far more easily. * Do You Listen to Feedback? Yes! All it takes to have something considered or changed is that simple e-mail. Some suggestions take longer to fulfill than others, but feedback has always been crucial to the development of this website. * Are You Native? Although I am not a native speaker, I have spoken the language for 19 years. I continue pushing myself to better my own skills so that I may be a better educator. Native input has been an invaluable factor into the development and proofreading of the website’s content. Native speakers are free to critique so long as said feedback is not emotionally or racially driven. The same standard of proof is applied to all who wish to contribute. THE ORIGIN OF IMABI 「いまび」の命名について The word 今日 means “today” and is typically read as “kyō,” but it may also be read differently in other expressions, such as “kon’nichi” in the famous phrase “kon’nichi-wa” meaning “hello/good afternoon.” As a kid, I wondered why 今日 could not be read as “imabi” despite 今日日 “kyōbi” being a word. That childhood thought then became the inspiration for the Japanese curriculum you see today! ! Love or hate the name, いまび provides a learning perspective unlike any other. FUNDING 献金先 The site has remained free throughout its long history, but it does require a lot of time and energy to upkeep.
