Compression garments exert pressure on the legs, improving blood circulation and
reducing swelling.  They apply graduated pressure, meaning they deliver the
greatest pressure at the ankle with pressure reducing gradually up the leg to
push excess fluids back towards the heart.




They are commonly prescribed to treat medical conditions including -




 * Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI): Compression helps manage symptoms like
   swelling, pain, and heaviness in the legs and are used in the treatment of
   leg ulcers.
 * Lymphedema: By reducing swelling and improving fluid management, compression
   garments can help manage this condition.
 * Varicose veins: While compression won't eliminate varicose veins, it can
   alleviate symptoms and prevent them from worsening.
 * Post-surgery recovery: Compression garments can speed up recovery by reducing
   swelling and promoting healing.




It is essential to ensure your compression garments fit correctly to ensure
maximum benefit and comfort.  Many off-she-shelf garments are designed to fit
"standard" sized legs which may not be suitable for many patients.  Poorly
fitting garments can either deliver insufficient pressure to have a noticeable
impact or have tight spots in the leg or the top band causing a tourniquet
effect and actually restricting blood flow.
